This B&B is much more than just a B&B. Situated in a beautiful area of Kentucky, surrounded by state parks and other preserved natural areas, this part of the state is paradise for hikers and rock climbers. The B&B consists of a main house with several rooms and several different cabins, as well as a barbeque "shack" and a magnificent climbing wall (really a natural amphitheater with verticle sandstone cliffs and a waterfall.) The rooms and the cabins are "rustic" style, beautifully done in natural pine (much of it harvested on the actual land where the cabins were built.) The cabin we stayed in, "The Climber's Cabin", is a steep walk up with a fabulous front porch and nice view. The cabin is loft style, fully equiped, and completely comfortable (and airconditioned!) The B&B is run by a delightful family, the food, both the included breakfast and the BBQ restaurant is magnificent, and the family that runs the place is so nice and friendly, you just want to sit and talk with them and hear more about the area parks, trails, and climbing.
But, let's not forget the climber's wall - this is a jewel! I was with a group of old college buddies, and none of us had ever rock climbed. The daughter of the owner gave us a mandatory 30 minute training session, full gear, and off we were, up a sheer sandstone wall! It is beautifully designed, starts easy, with built in steel bars and a permenantly installed safety cable. It's a perfect, completely safe introduction to a great sport.
There's just nothing negative about this place: if you're into good food, hiking, climbing, or just enjoying good company and a beautiful setting, well, then you've found your spot!
