Although I was there as early as the spring of 1995, I still remember the beauty of this place. It was under different management then, so this review may not reflect today's DRI. My emotions were a bit skewed because I was on a date with the girl I loved and subsequently married in May of that year. But the setting was very romantic for us. Later we returned as a married couple and spent the night in one of the rooms in the portion that was built by Thomas Lincoln. There were huge rough-hewn beams on the ceiling and all our room furnishings were the most exquisite antiques. I know we slept well that night and the next day dined in the restaurant. The food was good and the prices for all were fair. I don't know if I would want to return again to stay after reading some other reviews. It seems the new management has different ideas. They were just making changes in late '03 when we returned with some friends to show them around. They had done away with the downstairs gift shop by then and that was a big negative to me. Things have changed.
