“Great Little Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2010

We just returned home from a stay at this hotel and was very pleased with our time there. The lobby is very inviting with a small sitting area featuring comfortable chairs, couch, books and a fireplace. Also in the lobby is a public computer for use by visitors. Our room was very comfortable, roomy and extremely clean. The staff, especially the manger was friendly and helpful. The fitness center is small but has great treadmills, and is adequate for a workout. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing a clean comfortable place to stay at a great price.

“Two weekend stays at Country Inn and Suites Berea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

Just back from two consecutive weekends at the Country Inn and Suites in Berea, KY. This was one of the hotels for the FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG). Of the hotels available through Short's Travel for the WEG this was one of the more affordable. Stayed in third floor rooms near the elevator both weekends. On the first weekend there was a significant smoke smell in the hallway, despite rooms on the third floor being marked No Smoking.

Rooms were clean and comfortable, though the bed was very firm. Bathroom offered a sufficient supply of towels of good quality. Sheets for the bed were good, though a higher thread count would be nicer. TV offered a limited range of channels.

Hotel was to capacity but we did not experience much sound carry over from room to room or hallway to room other than what sounded like a group of teenagers at one point during our first weekend there. Breakfast offerings were not as good as other chains...no yogurt or make your own waffles but that can be chalked up to personal preference more than anything. Breakfast area looked well kept and had ample seating.

Biggest drawback during our trip involved one of the hotel staff. We had wristbands for the shuttle service being offered during the games. Closest pick up location was at the Best Western just off I-75, exit 104. Casey at the front desk provided directions he apparently printed from Google maps. I trusted him and failed to check directions myself (big mistake). Those directions took us off exit 99 and down a one lane country road...extra time involved in getting back on the right path made us late for our event.

When Casey was contacted by phone and advised that the directions were incorrect, he insisted that he would continue to give them out and then proceeded to hang up on my call. Prior to him hanging up I literally begged him...'please, please, please do not give those directions out...wrong exit number, country roads, they are wrong.' He stated more than once he would continue to give them out if asked and he did hang up the call.

Took this up with the assistant manager Lee the next day and showed him the directions. (I Googled the directions later myself with that search showing exit 104...not sure what address he put in for the Best Western to get exit 99 and one lane country roads for a route.) Lee said he would talk to the employee but I have no idea if the bad directions were still being distributed.

Other than that unfortunate incident we had a good stay and would consider staying here again if in the area (but we won't ask for directions).

“interatioanal traveler finds a cordial small town motel”

Very clean and sort of traditional Americana type furnishings. the people were very friendly and the free breakfast a real treat. It is a 1 mile drive to Berea downtown but worth it. My room was maybe $70 a night for a very quiet room with a refrigerator. Has a nice indoor pool. I thought i would be bored to death but found the motel pleasant and the city friendly and unique. I might even come back for fun to look around.

“Bad mistake staying here.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2010

My wife made a reservation at this place thinking it was a Comfort Inn where we usually stay on trips. Bad mistake.
The first night we were there, the room was very nicely made up. When we arrived back from our outing the second day, the room was a mess. Someone had dumped a stack of towels on the bathroom sinkside and thrown the bed together hastily. All the trash was still in the waste baskets and no other cleaning had been done.
My wife went down to the front desk to tell them about the condition of the room. She was asked, "Did you leave the Do Not Disturb sign on the door." I guess it did not occur to the desk clerk that someone had to enter the room to leave the stack of towels in the bathroom and "make" the bed. My wife said we did not leave the sign on the door. She then asked whether we left a lot of stuff around the room. Again my wife answerd no, but by this time it was obvious to her that this person did not care about correcting the problem. She was more interested in protecting the person that was supposed to have cleaned the room.
The breakfast was adaquate.
We would not consider staying at this hotel again and will probably avoid any Country Inns in the future. The staff is poorly trained and it is probably the fault of the Country Inn company.

“Welcome to Ghost Town--Where is everybody?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2010

Stayed here on trip home from Florida vacation with family. This was one of six motels we stayed at during the trip. We normally try to stay at Country Suites or Comfort Suites and get a 2-room suite. Both chains are usually very clean, comfortable & accomodating. Big exception here! I should have sensed a problem when I called the motel directly to make a reservation for that evening. The woman on the phone begrudgingly took my reservation and was really put out when I asked for the room rate and directions. When we checked in, she was unfriendly, cold, & rude. The room was fine and the motel was clean, but our real issue came the following morning. We stayed on a Sunday night and there were only about 6 cars in the parking lot. When we went for breakfast there was basically NO FOOD!! I expect that since there was very few guests, they put out very little food. There was nothing in the bin marked "waffles". There was ONE cooked egg. There were two slices of white bread -- one from each end of the loaf. Not much beyond that. No pastries, bagels, etc. We tried to find a worker but couldn't. I went to the front desk, but no one was there. No other guests around either. After waiting around for a while, I finally put the room keys on the front desk and we left ghost town .
