“Good Value - Very Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

My wife and I stayed at the Plaza Hotel, Overland Park from 10/23/10 through 10/26/10. We had to come to Kansas from Colorado for a funeral. Stress was bad enough and I would like to say a very heartfelt "THANK YOU" to the staff at the Plaza Hotel.

The room was more than adequate and the value of what was received was wonderful. The staff was friendly and very helpful. It appeared to be a Family Run Hotel. Granted, it is an older building compared to what is in the area but neither my wife or I had any complaints. The staff bent over backwards to accommodate any request. The breakfast meal was good and even with the influx of over 100 railroad workers, things were very quiet. I am not sure why the bad reviews have been listed here.

If I have to travel to the Kansas City area again, I will definitely check out the availability of a room at the Plaza Hotel.

Thanks again for everything

“I wouldn't stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

This hotel wasn't too bad but I don't consider it worth the money.
Service was kind of slow. Once I tipped a staff member for bringing us some extra cups (they give you a grand total of 4 small plastic cups a day and I was staying in the room in a group of 3 so that sucked) and he forgot the pillows we had also asked for over the phone and he took off after he got his tips.
The grout in the shower seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in years (literally brown).
Then the day before our flight home I left my cell phone on the bed and noticed it after I left but I thought it would be fine. When I came back that night it was missing and when I tried to tell them what happened they said they would call the maid who cleaned. When they got back to me they said that they have never had that problem before and did not try to assist me further.
I looked all over the room under the beds, everywhere and my phone was not found.
I am back in massachusetts and would advise not to stay there.
When you can't trust an item like your cell phone to be left in your room you know this is not a good place to stay.
We just called them again about it and they told us that they "are not responsible for stuff left in your room"

We have served these folks hand to foot. We have cleaned up their throw ups from partying in our room. The guest had misplaced the cell phone somwhere else and blaming the hotel for it. We have had our guest left laptops, ipads, jewlery, we have returned to our guests. We want guests for life, we do not want their stuff. It is very easy to pin it to the hotel when you may have left it some place else.

“Ok- don't plan on returning again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

Upon first glance of this hotel, it's a dump. Used to be a Wyndham but they have recently changed ownership. While the hotel is quiet, the walls are fairly thin. I stayed in this hotel with my fiance for my birthday weekend. The bed was pretty hard, I woke up with back pain. The pillows were a bit harder-- glad we brought our own. Don't plan on eating here for breakfast-- its $10 a person. I expected more out of this hotel than what I felt like I got for paying as much. This hotel needs to improve a lot more but I do not plan on coming back.

Upon arrival, another guest had an issue with their room set up. Front desk wasn't very hospitable and practically argued with them about their preferences.

Pros: close to interstate, quiet, fast internet.
Cons: see above.

“Very Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

I have read reviews in the past, don't really know what to make of them. I do know we stayed at the Plaza Hotel for 3 nights. Had a very enjoyable stay. Front lobby very clean and elegant, hallways were a little warm but not bad. There was an very nice exercise room with equipment that my husband used quite a bit, and also a very clean outdoor pool. Grounds were very well kept, and our room was more than adaquate. We did receive breakfast with our stay and the food was very good. I think this hotel had been the Wyndham in the past, but from what we could tell we had no complaints what so ever with our stay, the staff was very nice and considerate and tried to accomodate our every need. We travel to the city at least 4 times per year, and will definatly stay at this hotel in the future. For the price you cannot beat their accomodations. They even take pets...
