“rude staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Front desk clerk is very rude and treats you like you are really bothering him. His english is very very poor. It is almost noon and our room has not been cleaned yet. Front desk clerk said maids have 150 rooms to clean, REALLY, he expects me to believe they are filled to the max!! Then he said the maids have other things to do beside clean my room!!!! They were two doors down cleaning a room at 9 Where did they go? Exercise room is an old small room that STINKS! They said there restaurant is open til 9pm, that was not the case last night!

Room Tip: one side of hotel faces the interstate, get a room on back side to avoid all the traffic noise.

“Too Many Reasons to Stay Elsewhere...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

Over 120 of my coworkers and I are attending school here in Overland Park for my employer, so the Plaza (Now called Clarion) Hotel has been a "home-away-from-home" for the past 6 weeks. I "strongly" do not recommend this hotel for the following reasons:

1) Old, noisy, smelly EVERYTHING! Renovation is absolutely necessary, as there are so many nicer, newer properties offering so much more in this nice part of town. This place will die without it. All of the carpets, sheets, towels, etc. are stained, torn, etc. All furniture, televisions, appliances, etc. are old and faulty. Nothing is new here. I am terrified to think what a "black light test" would reveal (yuck!).

2) Unreceptive & unaccommodating front desk staff & management! Every attempt made to repair air conditioners, refrigerators, lack of hot water, silence noisy, "crack-head" neighbors, etc... has gone unfulfilled. Only the maids and their contacts have been friendly and helpful, probably because I speak Spanish (and because I bribe them with homemade treats, ha ha).
3) Location - Although right by the loop, it is not easy to exit the hotel, due to a fence at the freeway, as well as two 1-way streets. Restaurants and shopping is within walking distance at least. Freeway traffic adds to noise issue as well.
4) Adjacent construction - A gas station is under construction right next to the property, so it is noisy and dirty.
5) The food sucks - Breakfast buffet is $6.00, but I would not recommend it, unless you wish to visit the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, conveniently located 7 minutes away, ha ha.
6) Poor Internet - WiFi is non-existent and plug-in internet is very slow.

The only reason one would consider a night in this place would be the rates, which are very low (the reason my company stuck us here in the first place). However, if you never take any advice from me ever again, at least take this to heart... RUN FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS DUMP!! Pitch a tent in a parking lot instead :)

Room Tip: Stay at the "Super 8" next door if you are desperate. Not here.

“Aboslutely not. Downright dangerous.”

This hotel has a three star rating, and I have no idea how they have maintained this rating, as it appeared to be a glorified Motel 6. My first impression was that we had certainly been misled when we booked the room, but the price was OK so we decided to stick it out. However, we were positively horrified with what we found in the room. On our first night, we got in late and quickly went to sleep, so everything was OK. However, on the next night, my husband sat on the armchair in the room, and smelled urine! It seemed that someone had urinated on the chair, and the hotel had attempted to clean it - poorly. We decided to just avoid the chair as it was our final night, but when we got in bed, I found dried blood on the pillow - definitely not mine or my husband's, as neither one of us had been bleeding, and they had changed the pillows out; they were shaped differently and there were 3 instead of 2. No kidding! At that point, my husband went to the front desk, and was told that this had never happened before. We were given a new room, but the desk clerk was unapologetic, and other than this refused to compensate in any way for what had happened.

Please, don't waste your money on this third-world livestock barn, and keep your family safe. There is no telling what diseases we were exposed to. I still can't believe that this happened, and am flabbergasted that the management was so passive. I saw no remorse, so would be shocked to see anything done about it - meaning that the next guest will also fall victim to these deceptive ratings and dangerously unsanitary conditions. This place should be shut down, and I hope that for the safety of the guests that it is.

Room Tip: Just please don't book one.

“You get what you pay for...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2011

The Plaza hotel is pretty much what you expect for a basic, cheap room. The location is conveinent located right off the highway. The rooms were average size, had old outdated TV's and furniture, but were kept clean.

The hotel staff working there are not the most friendly people in the world. I had one simple request for a few more hangers because our room only had 3 in there when we checked in. I was told that the housekeeper would bring some extras over soon. About a half hour later, I called the front desk again to ask and was told that they didn't have any extras. Really? There are no hangers anywhere?? We had to stop at Wal-Mart for something any ways, so I picked up 10 for $1.17. Maybe the hotel would want to stop over there sometime as well! LOL!

The gym at the hotel is pretty much a joke. The elipical machine makes a horrible "clunking" noise, and the treadmill makes some crazy noises as well when using it!

Honestly, the place wasn't terrible but we didn't have very high expectations either. For a cheap hotel rate, it's fine. If you want something a bit better, look at a few other chain hotels across/down the street!

“Not associated with Clarion”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

Management was rude and unaccommodating. Hotel is located on the highway and there is no sound buffer to block out freeway traffic. Windows are drafty and unsafe. When I called to adjust the reservation the Magnison group informed me this hotel isn't supposed to be using their name or logos. This was made more evident when you see that the logos they use on site are photo-copied and pasted onto their brochures.

Room Tip: Go accross to the Marriott, worth the extra $20
