“Great updates at Holiday Inn Olathe”

I had read so many negative remarks about this hotel, I was almost afraid to stay there. We had numerous points and after reading 2 positive reviews, decided to trade them to stay here. This was a great decision!

The hotel has been remodeled. If you are looking for a brand new hotel, it is not but very nice. The only draw back was no elevator in dragging our luggage upstairs. Only 2 floors though! The room had a balcony overlooking the pool. There were several groups using the convention rooms, but never noisy. Tuesday through Thursday they have free appetizers and drinks for Priority Club patrons. Very nicely ran and good food. We used it twice as we were having late dinners.

We ate breakfast there at least 3 days. With the Priority Club discount it was very reasonable. They did not charge for coffee and gave us large to go cups. The buffet was not a bad option if in a hurry and very reasonably prices at $6.99 including juice.

We also got free drink coupons and they had a nice selection. The bartender acted surprised we tipped him.

The staff went out of their way to make this a pleasant experience. We will be back because we love Holiday Inn and this is a marvelous place to stay with all the make over.

“Great Hotel, although older.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

Although this hotel is clearly older than most hotels I stay at, it seemed to be very well kept up, with a few exceptions. The jacuzzi in the courtyard did not seem to be working properly. A portion of the wall paper/fabric (don't remember what it was) in their meeting area was coming off the wall.

Another problem I had was their tv was locked so that I couldn't hook up my x box to play. They offered to fix the next day but it wasn't a big deal to me.

Overall I enjoyed the hotel a lot. A few highlights: the lobby was beautiful. Definitely unique. The rooms decor was top notch with plenty of lighting - a shocker for holiday inns. No shortage on outlets as the lamps had built in outlets - this concept is new to me and was absolutely fantastic as I always have lots of stuff to plug in. I really liked the pool area: different from most hotels with an old fashioned pool. I had a room that had a door connecting to the courtyard: wouldn't have it any other way.

The location of this hotel is quite convenient. On the edge of Kansas City and right next to the mall. We were in the area to go to the Renaissance Festival and to Worlds of Fun. It is a ways from Worlds of Fun but it is close to the interstate so you can get quick access to most of kansas city within 20-30 minutes. I was actually suprised that more people weren't staying here. With easy access to places I would have thought that the holiday travelers would have been out and about. One downside: I can see this hotel becoming very uncomfortable with a large convention as there doesn't seem to be much public space.

Didn't really care for the restaurant. Didn't end up eating there but looked at their insane prices. Maybe this was just Kansas City prices but when you can go to the waffle house across the way and get a good meal for $5, you will never spend $10 for an over rated breakfast.

Well work the money! The rate was good and the service was good to as I work on the laptop in the lounge. Food was hot and fresh and the bed was in good shape.

“Wouldn't stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

This is an old property. The hallways smelled "old." Everything is dark. The fitness center ceiling is eight feet high. They had to cut a hole in the ceiling so you could stand upright on the treadmill. My non-smoking room smelled like it had been smoked in for 20 years.

Saving graces? To be fair, the rooms are Inexpensive and clean. The staff was helpful; it has a bigger, old fashioned pool.

“Making an effort to improve and succeeding.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

My husband asked me to make a reservation at this hotel. AFTER I made the reservation, I read the reviews. I called the hotel to talk to them and was told the hotel had remodeled 1.5 years ago. I decided to keep the reservation, particularly since they were running a promotion for 5k points per night. The room is clean, the beds are comfortable, the bathroom is spotless. The carpet is worn and needs to be replaced, this would be my only complaint. The attendant at the front desk was very accommodating and professional, very helpful when I asked for restaurant recommendations. PC members were treated to a reception with beverages, appetizers and my young son played a Wii game while we relaxed. It is obvious they are trying to overcome the bad reviews and I believe they are succeeding.
