Agreed that this is a very basic motel.

The good:
Location is great -- Shawnee Mission Pkwy and I-35. Easy commute to KC and suburban businesses in Olathe or Overland Park.
There's a Dennys and a IHOP within a couple of blocks.
Staff is courteous.

The bad:
The rooms smell of smoke. Even the non smoking ones! The management is not a fault if guests go ahead and smoke in non-smoking rooms.

I stayed 6 nights in September. Booked thru Expedia. I have already contacted Expedia about my experience and also contacted this hotel. Mattress was horrible. Woke up in the middle of the night with 2 huge bug bites on my back. Hard mattress. A steel rod dangerously sticking out of bed frame that I kept bumping into! Spread had at least 50+ cigarette burns on it. 2 old and flat pillows. Old and tiny TV set. Carpet was musty and nasty, so please wear slippers! Ants in kitchen the entire stay. No maid service unless your stay is 7 nights or longer??? A kitchen drawer with a bag of old onions that were growing roots. When was the last time the maid looked in the drawer??? Towels that I wouldn't use to dry my car let alone a stray animal. This place was more like an old run-down place suitable for varmits. Please DO NOT STAY HERE. I've had experience with other Homesteads in California and always had a nice experience with them and other Marriott locations. Is this Shawnee Mission location not investigated by Marriott??? Hmmmm??? It's been a few weeks since my stay and I'm getting the heebie jeebies just thinking about this hotel. Yuck! On a lighter note...the staff was very nice and they didn't charge me for internet service.

This place is totally sketchy. Even as we were driving up I knew I had made the wrong choice. The place is in need of repair. The room was dirty. All of the dishes were dirty (we only stayed one night so we didn't need them, but still). There were no knobs on the air conditioner and the controls were FILTHY (I am not sure that they have ever been cleaned). There was something gross splattered all over the ceiling of the bathroom. It looked like a crime scene. The location was great for our purposes, but the Drury Inn right around the corner looked much nicer and when I was pricing really wasn't that much expensive. We only needed it for the night for a friends wedding, but I really wish I had spent the extra money. Hindsight's always 20/20. I wish I hadn't forgotten my camera so that I could have shared pictures of this place though, guess you'll have to take my word for it.

I was completely satisfied with the room, with the service, and with the cleanliness. After having read a number of negative reviews, I was not sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised, and I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone looking for convenience, cleanliness, and service; all at a great price!
