“Nice but noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Third trip to Lawrence, and had heard so many good things about this property. Sorry to say, I'm not sure it'd be my choice upon return. Do love the location - right off the main drag, so you can walk to lots of things, and the restaurant was quite good. Do NOT love the noise, however. There were earplugs beside the bed with a note about how the downtown might be noisy. However, it wasn't the downtown that was noisy at all ... it was inside the hotel. There was some kind of racket going on the entire time whether it was just voices carrying (pretty typical in older hotels, of course) or ongoing repairs or the elevator (which apparently was behind my room). Other issues: tough to control temperature in the room, bath products not great (no conditioner?), room service very mediocre, parking situation not good (seemed understaffed and there is no self-park option). Would choose the sister property - Oread - even though the Eldridge has the better location.

Room Tip: Stay in a corner away from as many rooms / as much traffic as possible. Also specifically ask to be...

Thank you for your review! We take all of our guest concerns very seriously and I have passed your concerns along to the appropriate parties! As you mentioned, the historic nature of our property does present some obstacles, but we strive to make every guest as comfortable as possible. Safe travels for your next trip to Lawrence!

“The Eldridge vs. The Oread”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

First, let me start by saying that you can't go wrong with either. These are my two favorite hotels in Lawrence and they both have a lot to offer. The Oread has a beautiful lobby and great rooftop terraces. The Bird Dog restaurant is fun and the hotel is practically right on campus. With that being said, when it came time to book for graduation, I booked the Eldridge. I love their location right on Mass. St., with all the shops and restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are also nicer as they're suite style, much more space, although they need to update their T.V.'s! I would suggest trying both!

Thank you for your kind reviews of both The Eldridge and The Oread! I certainly hope that your recent trip for graduation does not mean it will be your last trip to Lawrence. Although pass along our congratulations to the graduate! I also wanted to note that we are in the process of updating our TVs at The Eldridge. Though they are not in all the rooms just yet, they will be soon!

Nicely restored, comfortable large room. Right downtown Lawrence, could be noisy in football season. Earplugs provided in the room but no need for us.

“Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Lawrence...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

As a first time visitor to Lawrence for a family wedding, I took the advice of the couple and reserved a room at the Eldridge. What a pleasant surprise! My husband and I are picky with hotels and used to staying in 5-star properties. The rooms are huge and very comfortable. I also felt that the entire property was very clean (a big thing for me!). We were able to walk right out of the hotel onto the most charming street full of great shopping and restaurants. The second morning, I awoke with a sore throat. My husband went down to the restaurant, where a very kind young waitress went out of her way to find lemon and honey for my hot tea. I noticed the comments about poor customer service, we only experienced great customer service.

Valet parking is offered at only $10 a day!!! Those of you who travel extensively know what a bargain this is! The car was always ready within a couple minutes. Unfortunately, we were unable to try the famous Sunday breakfast buffet, but I have heard many it was wonderful. The other items we tried in the restaurant were very good and really reasonably priced. If we ever have a reason to be in Lawrence again, we will definately stay at the Eldridge!

Room Tip: Rooms near Massachussettes can be noisy.

“One of the best anywhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

The Eldridge is a beautifully restored old-school hotel in the heart of downtown Lawrence, one of my favorite college towns anywhere. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable, bar downstairs is easily one of the best hotel saloons in the country. I travel a fair amount and the Eldridge is always nice to get back to.
