Our last night before home after our dog shows in Philly. We thought we'd stop just outside Kansas City to avoid the traffic so chose Lawrence KS. This motel is very convenient off the turnpike. Unfortunately you have to drive a ways through construction on local streets to find food or gas. This is a college town and this motel is close to the campus. There is a little park that backs up to one side of the motel where students go to drink and whatever else they can think up to do. These is a grassy lawn out front for dogs and the girl on the desk is a show person also.
The motel itself is reminiscent of those we used to stay in on dog show trips in the sixties. The door to access the interior rooms had a little secret. You had to swipe your card, then push the handle then quickly pull it open. We got the hang of it right away. The toilet in our room wobbled when I sat on it. Maybe because I'm not the build if a college student but the toilet paper dispenser wasn't bolted on either.
Our room was on the ground floor but was numbered in the 200s. We saw there were rooms above us and below us but could never find the way to go up or down. We actually never would have known there were lower level rooms if the clerk hadn't mentioned it. Wonder what's down there. Our room had a balcony with one plastic chair. Ther is also laundry facilities.
Our room was large and the bathroom was very clean. Typical sloppy caulk job but no mildew. There was a hair stuck to the ceiling in the bathroom but how many people look up anyway. The beds were the most comfortable on our trip. There were only a few channels on the TV which left lots of time to sit on the balconly or drink beer in the park. The carpet was badly stained and a little crushed down but if you follow my lead and wear socks or slippers when in the room at all times you'll be OK.
The parking lot is tight and getting out in the morning is a little tough as the steet in front is very busy. If you like hidden floors, tricky doors, a great rate and don't mind driving a bit for gas and food this is a good place for one night.
We'd recommend it.
