“Decent for the price, minus a few quirks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here to cut a long drive in half, so the purpose of the stay was to get some sleep. Unfortunately, we had a more eventful night than we had hoped. However, what happened was probably a complete fluke, so I can't *really* blame the hotel.

At midnight, I noticed the chirp of a smoke alarm from another room indicating that the batteries needed to be changed. I called the front desk worker and he said he would take care of it. In the meantime, I ran the heater to cover the noise, but the heater was very loud and rattled, so I had to turn it off a few minutes later. By then the chirping had stopped.

Then, at 5am, an alarm clock in an adjacent room went off, and the room was vacant! Again, I called the front desk. The same front desk worker took care of the problem in about 2 minutes. When he saw me in the morning, he apologized.

The pros:
- Bed was decently comfortable
- Free breakfast, which is good for a budget hotel. The breakfast itself was okay (waffle maker, muffins/rolls, two types of cereal, orange juice and coffee)
- Rooms came with fridge and microwave
- Nice TVs in the room
- Located right off the interstate, near gas stations and a few restaurants
- Bathrooms looked recently renovated - nice "stone looking" tiles in the shower, "granite looking" countertops for the sink. Looked great.
- Room was very clean and smelled fresh.
- Staff took care of my noise complaint ASAP
- Free WiFi

Cons:
- Having to call the front desk twice in a night due to smoke detector/alarm clock in other rooms. The smoke alarm is maybe forgivable, but housekeeping should turn alarm clocks off in vacant rooms.
- Loud heater fan
- I couldn't find an open electrical outlet to save my life! I had to MOVE the king sized bed, unplug the microwave, or use the outlets in the bathroom. Very inconvenient.
-Pillows were a little uncomfortable, but that may be personal taste

All in all, if we ever stay in the area again, we will probably stick to this Econolodge. For a budget hotel, it exceeded our expectations, despite a few flukes during the night.

“Honest Owners, Friendly staff, Decent place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

I believe this hotel is now called the EconoLodge rather than Knights Inn. The hotel is older but clean. The decor is a little tired but ok. The beds were queen sized and comfortable. The shower was hot and seemed to have enough pressure for me. Breakfast was good- Cook yourself waffles (with good syrup!), cereal, pastries, juice, breads/toast and coffee. I reserved my room over the 1 800 choice hotels phone number and they made a mistake with my reservation. When we checked in it was late at night and the night person couldn't fix it but the next morning the manager Kanu Patel visited with me and was very friendly. Two weeks later he called me to make sure I was happy with how it was handled and again offered to return my $10.00 to me or to give me an additional discount in the future. You don't get customer service like that everyday. To be treated honestly and fairly means a lot to me and I will be returning. I will gladly overlook dated decor to know I am dealing with a good and honest person and establishment. If you need a comfortable, clean, no frills room with queen beds in Hays at one of the lowest prices then this is the place for you.

“Don't do it.”

Hays is an expensive motel town. We got a good rate for a quick stayover on our way to ski CO. This was described as a 2 star hotel on the web site I used. NO WAY. Two stars are fine, and we didn't expect much, but the place was filthy, noisy, seedy, smelly, disgusting and I think we were the only people in the place who spoke English. Any amount paid is too much.

“Not Bad For The Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

Motel 6 across the street was the same rate for fewer perks. Room had a king size bed, very clean, nice bath and staff was very helpful. Remote for TV did not work, but was replaced immediately by front desk. Micro and fridge in room and internet connection was awesome. Nice little chair and ottoman in room. We have stayed at several motels this summer while on vacation and this motel was by far as nice as any we have stayed in for under $60 per night, two adults. Would recommend.

“Dirty and only slightly less expensive - don't stay here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

This hotel isn't much cheaper than the other hotels in town, but it should be considering how dirty it is. I wish I had paid 5$ more and stayed somewhere decent.,

In case you really want to save $5, here is what you can expect: dirty hallways, off-smelling room, poor wireless, small and poor-quality breakfast, junky shower with lame pressure, seedy feeling throughout. Yuck.
