“Could use some updating, but good value.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

We usually stay here twice a year when passing through to Texas. Some things could use some updating -- the wallpaper is starting to peel in some of the bathrooms, carpet is showing wear in hallways, etc. But, beds and pillows are comfy and location is very quiet, away from I-35 noise. Rooms have frig & microwave. Breakfast is basic continental with the addition of a waffle maker. They have a very good rate for seniors.

“First room was not clean. Second room clean but shabby.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2011

In the first room they gave us, the sheets had not been changed, there was urine all over the rim of the toilet and sticky soda on the table. The second room they gave us was clean, but . . .

The toilet seat was very loose and uncomfortable to sit on. I couldn't use the shower. First, it took all my strength to pull the faucet out to turn the water on, and in the few minutes it took for the water to get warm, the tub had 8 inches of water in it, because the drain was plugged. I put one foot in the tub, but it was so slippery I gave up. Then, I had to pound repeatedly on the faucet to get it to turn off again.

I couldn't hang my toiletry bag on the towel bar by the tiny vanity, because it was already tearing away from the wall.

There was no screen on the window, so we couldn't open it for fresh air. We also noticed that the lock was not functional, and we were on ground floor.

There was no coffee maker. I tried to use the microwave to heat some water for tea, but to plug it in, I had to reach behind the dresser and unplug either the refrigerator or the lamp by the dresser. To plug in my laptop, I had to unplug either the lamp by the desk or the TV set.

The beds were ok. It was quiet. The internet service was good. The breakfast was skimpy. Newspaper was free.

“rude staff, dead crickets, cigarette odor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2011

Ths is supposed to be a pet friendly motel but janitor ranted about Americans and their dogs that are dirty & smelly and how those who have dogs will get nothing when they pray to God. Also, dozens of dead crickets enter room via gap under door, gather & die in room & jump on beds while sleeping at night. Also, very strong cigarette odor in room. Two nightmare visits, there. Won't be a third. And, they do not respond to complaints about bad behavior of their janitor.

“Fast Internet but second floor is a furnace”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

This place has blazingly fast wifi (5MB/second), but the second floor is really hot. They don't turn on the AC in the rooms, so our room was a furnace that took a long time to cool on a hot day. The hallways are also beastly hot, even though it was a cool night. Otherwise, it is a typical you get what you pay for place.

“For the Budget minded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2010

For one night it wasn't bad. The staff was very accommodating - we had burned out bulbs by the bed and when we took them downstairs, they handed us new light bulbs. There is no elevator (that we saw), so if you cannot cart your bags upstairs, ask for a downstairs room. The rooms all open into a central hallway which is not air conditioned. Beware in the heat! The rooms were not cool upon arrival in mid-afternoon, but when we returned from touring the town (the Bluestem is not to be missed!) and dinner, the temperatures were good. The hotel was quiet. Rooms were a little worn, but for one night we weren't that picky. The rooms appeared to have been updated, but there were spots on the wallpaper. My bed was soft - one of my friend's was hard. I think the other was soft as well. New TV's with cable. The free continental breakfast was cereal, orange juice, waffles and sweet rolls. The sweet rolls appeared to be Dolly Madison - that bakery is a couple of blocks away. The bathroom was clean - there was a massaging shower head, but out of the four selections, only one worked. The motel provided shampoo, soap and lotion. There is a small pool outside that appeared clean... we did not take advantage of it. Again, for a basic place to sleep for one night, the Econo Lodge sufficed. No frills.
