“ok but old”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

I was traveling with my daughter and we just needed a place to sleep. We only had a smoking room available so we took it. It smelled like you would expect it to, smoky. The place was old, but not terrible. Just ok for a night. The other super 8s we stayed at on our road trip were much newer, cleaner and nicer.

“Everything was just fine--don't know what all the hubbub below is about”

Maybe the reviewers below need to park their Volvos and Beemers at a motel more upscale, and leave Super 8 to the working people of America.
No strange odors in my non-smoking room, or in the hallway, or anywhere else I was. King-size bed was fine. A/C worked well. The bathroom, however, seemed like it was designed for midgets; low showerhead and toilet. Perfectly useable though. Continental breakfast was nothing lavish, but what you would expect.

All in all, I'd say it was a good value, and would stay there again.

“"Non-smoking"??? Definitely not for asthmatics”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2009

My room -- and many of the rooms -- in the hotel are non-smoking. But apparently the hallways are NOT. The whole building reeks of cigarette smoke, and is extraordinarily strong in the hallways. Smoking rooms are just across the hall from the non-smoking rooms which makes things worse. The smoke came through the door, so I had to place towels at the bottom of the door (there is about an inch gap between the bottom of the door and the floor). This helped a little, as did the air conditioning. I hadn't expected to stay in Concordia, but I had to for a business appointment the following day. There certainly are slim pickings in Concordia: the EconoLodge looked absolutely seedy, and I would not pay $100 a night for the Holiday Inn Express (in the middle of nowhere, Kansas?!). The $59 was passable for one night. Thank goodness there was a McDonald's next door for an easily accessible breakfast (there is also a great lack of places to eat in town). I wouldn't eat or drink anything in a place that smells this bad.

“Oh my aching body!”

Attending a celebration for a family friend at the convent in Concordia we stayed 2 nights and it was positively awful. The beds were so hard our backs hurt for days, they aggravated my wife's carpal tunnel, and the rooms were filthy. The nightstand looked like it hadn't been moved for cleaning for several years. Avoid this place like the plague.

“Super 8? could have fooled me”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2007

I have stayed in many Super 8 hotels in my day. This one didn't impress me whatsoever. The room smelled of mold. We hoped that having the AC on full-blast would help, but nothing seems to help with mold odor. I had asked for an iron/ironing board (which I had to walk back downstairs to the front desk to retrieve)...and I was given one of those ecomony size 2-3 foot long boards which was just a makeshift piece of wood with fabric over it. Some of the fabric was torn off, so you could see that it was definitely just a piece of wood and not an actual store-bought small ironing board. The room was pretty roomy though...with exception to the bathroom. It's one of those where you have to actually be on the toilet to shut the door. There was a king-size bed and a recliner. The recliner wasn't very comfortable as the footrest was slanted at about a 45-degree angle when reclined. The adjustable showerhead was nice. Some people like power in their water, and some don't...so it's nice to have the option. Overall, I have stayed at many other Super 8 hotels, and this one didn't fair a 'two-star' to us.
