When driving across country, I much prefer simple, comfortable, "no overhead" motels. I am greatly impressed with the several remodeled Holiday Inn Expresses I have visited over the past year. The unit in Colby seems to be in the midst of its renovation. Our room was a "new" one, and it was really very nice. Up to date, chic decor, big TV, convenient features.

This is not an elegant hotel, but it is super for a one-night stopover.

I had stayed here several times before so I looked forward to the stop after a long days drive.
It was Hot and Late and I just wanted to eat and sleep.
I checked in and went to my room and was stunned at how disgusting it was,even on the surface!
The room smelled and there was water running in the bathroom that would not stop. The air barely worked and the place just felt dirty.
I went downstairs and asked for another room and was told they were all taken so I said thanks for the try but I will be staying somewhere else,I will not pay $120.00 for this room.
I was told that I would be paying whether I stayed or not and after arguing about it with the clerk I just left and went to the new Sleep Inn next door promising to settle it with my credit card company if I had to.
Who do they think they are?

This HIE has undergone renovations to a very nice standard. Colors are modern, muted sages and browns with dark woods that gave my 3rd floor room a masculine feel. Kudos to the hotel for using a 42" flat panel in the room - so many hotels skimp on the size of the their TVs, but this one felt large and theater-like. Only local broadcast channels are in HD; others are analog.

The bathroom renovation is also well-done, with a nice running bond tile-like surround in the tub/shower, stone and granite finishes, and a well-placed curved shower rod to make the shower space huge. Too bad the hotel didn't choose to pull the tubs altogether and go with a true shower-only experience, but I was in a QQ room and it's possible they may have done this in the K rooms.

Beds are the new HIE standard and are very comfortable. AC was quiet.

Breakfast included the signature cinnamon rolls and was abundant and clean.

Service levels were above average; whatever complaints caused such poor ratings by previous raters were non-existent in my experience.

My only nit is the rate. This is Colby, Kansas, not Denver or KC. It's rare to have to pay $105 a night for a Holiday Inn Express on the weekend in such a small town, and there was no AAA discount, a probable violation of AAA terms. I'm guessing the small-town owner charges so much...because they can. The local Hampton Inn was just as high, and these two are at the top of the quality scale in Colby.

Very nice & clean room! Remodeled to the Westin standards.

Previous night we stayed in Westin Suite (Crown Center Kansas City) & that dirty, moldy, nasty, 70's shower, etc. can't be compared to this clean & modern room.
