“Clean, Friendly Staff, Great Pool, Big Rooms. Best EVER!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

My husband, mother in law, father in law, brother in law, their dog, and my cat are all moving from Salt Lake City, Utah to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We experienced crazy weather during this move, so we stopped a few times on the way. In Kansas, we decided to try to find a nice hotel in Colby. I called the Days Inn and, seeing as they accept pets. The guy at the front desk gave us numerous discounts and even checked us in early (we got there at about 10:30 due to bad driving conditions). The rooms were clean and had a large fridge and microwave. Even though the smoking rooms are across the hall from the non-smoking rooms, I didn't smell a hint of smoke (and I'm pregnant, so I smell EVERYTHING). The hotel was really clean in general, the vending machines had great selections, and the included continental breakfast had plenty of options. The hot tub and pool were warm and clean and we had the pool room all to ourselves.
For a low-priced hotel I was very impressed!
Thanks, Days Inn!!!

“Most expensive night of our trip...in Kansas?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

This was the one night we did not book ahead online. There was confusion about the nightly rate whether or not it included the pet fee. The higher rate led to the rating of less value for the money. Comfortable beds. We were entertained by the all-night thunder and lightening. The free hot breakfast was appreciated. We left the motel with an uncomfortable feeling as the manager/owner scolded the desk clerk in public for some rate miscommunication errors. Close to fast food.

“Par for the course”

Having stayed in other hotels in the area, this one is perfectly average. Complaints you'd read about this hotel are also found for most hotels in the area. Overall, my stay was completely what I would have expected. Here's the rundown.

My room was on the second floor at the end of a dimly-lit hallway. The hallways do indeed smell like smoke, though my room did not. However, my room did have an odd odor to it, which was quickly resolved by simply opening the window. After a small investigation, I discovered that it was the draperies that housed the smell. I won't venture what that smell was or how it got there, but at least it went away with some fresh air. To be clear, the bed, linens, etc. all smelled just fine. Not fresh, but fine.

There was a dingy, upholstered reclining chair in the corner. I didn't touch it. There was a small table and set of chairs, which I used as a desk. The internet was free and worked well. Free HBO on the tv. The shower head was well-pressured. The fridge worked well, no smells. The microwave, however, was broken, but I was able to use the one in the breakfast room downstairs. A slight inconvenience, but at least the girl at the desk was able to find a solution for me, as I had already bought a frozen dinner before testing to ensure the microwave worked.

Breakfast was average. They did have the fresh-waffle-making-machine, though I couldn't get it to work. Other than waffles, everything else was cold: cereal, bagels, muffins, juice, milk, coffee, tea.

The pool was a good size and appeared clean.

Benefits: there is a lot to eat nearby because the hotel is located right off the highway. There's even a Burger King right next door (so you can walk off that burger) if you like fast food. There's antique stores in the area, if you like to walk around looking at odds and ends, and a clothing store right behind the hotel next to a very small movie theater. A grocery store was half a mile away, too. Additionally, the staff was friendly. That ALWAYS helps.

Real complaints: the walls are thin. When my neighbor used the shower, the sound of water in the pipes woke me up. Everything else was manageable. I have definitely been in worse hotels for more money.

“Completely disgusting experience.”

We booked this reservation while on the road in Kansas. When we arrived, our reservation could not be found. I had to show the clerk my confirmation on my email on my cell phone, then she went ahead and gave us a room. Apparently, our reservation came through later, though. In our room, the carpet was filthy. Its darker around the perimeter, it's so poorly cleaned. The bedspread had spots of blood on the back side, which were obviously fresh and unlaundered, meaning the bedspread had not been cleaned. The remote had no back and remnants of tape that had been over the battery
compartment. It did not work, so we took it to the front desk. She changed the batteries, but it still didn't work. We had to remake the bed before sleeping in it because the fitted sheet had been barely pulled over the lip of the mattress edge. If we hadn't been exhausted and Colby is so tiny, we would have demanded our money back and gone elsewhere. To cap it off, the next morning, the breakfast still had an hour to go, but was
not restocked. It had been really picked over, so we had little choice in what was left. In every detail, our stay was absolutely miserable. This hotel was disgusting.

We complained to the company, and they referred it to the hotel manager. He basically told us they had staff to take care of these things, so we couldn't have been right in what we said. I told them that having all the staff in the world doesn't matter if these things are still wrong! Good thing I had photographic proof of everything I claimed (see attached)! He reluctantly refunded half of our money.

“Ok but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

First two nights were ok..but as another reviewer stated, smoke filled hallways. Tonight, after having confirmed reservations and having stayed the two previous nights, I arrived after a 500 mile day to find that a power outage had erased everyones reservation. Perhaps a $50 battery back up for the computer would have solved this and kept a good customer happy! They went ahead and filled up the motel despite knowing they had screwed a bunch of customers ..NOT A PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE. I had to stay at Motel 6 but it was far cheaper anyway.

Also...breakfast room way way to small for number of beds this place has. Also...pool needed cleaning bad. Filthy. Considering that I own a road tour company...this error on their part will cost them business down the road. I would have been nice if they had at least offered an appology.
