“Waterpark Ok for smaller children.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

on checkin we asked if the rooms were adjoining rooms as that is what we reserved. The guy at the front desk says no they are across the hall from each other. Well we would really like rooms together. He spends 10 minutes looking and says No I cant find any. we tell him ok as the line behind us is now backed up to the door. So he gives us our room #s and its 277 and 279. HELLO!!!!!!! That would be adjoining rooms. If they were across the hall they would be 276 and 277. Sister and I took our small grandkids there and they had a blast.Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. So all in All it was a good time for the kids

“small water park for all the hype”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed here as our base for a family reunion. We chose this hotel because of the water park - that said, the term water park should be used loosely. The pool area is rather small to be called a water park. There are 2 water slides which are fun and a small lazy river area. If your children are under 10 this is okay but the closer to 10 and older it is pretty small. What we really did not like was that the snack bar in the water park area closed so early! One night they closed down 2 hours early because business was slow - the pool area was open and we were hungry so we had to order from the on-site restaurant instead. The rooms are fine - we stayed in a suite with 2 connected rooms, this was great for our family and these rooms are located on the back side of the hotel where it is quieter and a bit easier to get some sleep. Our rooms were quite humid despite cranking the A/C. Breakfast is not included - in this day and age this seems as though it should be standard with a family oriented hotel. We did have a fridge in our room so we stopped a store and picked up breakfast food to eat in our room each day. Given the other options for hotels in the area, this is probably the best if you have kids. Had my husband and I been traveling on our own we would have likely stayed closer in to the Amana Colonies at one of the B&B's or smaller inns.

“Unhappy with Pretty Much EVERYTHING!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

I made reservation (January 1, 2012-January 2,2012) for my family and some friends out of town. Check in time was 4, when we got there my friends' room has not been cleaned and they have had to wait for an hour. The people at the front desk weren't friendly and they didn't feel bad that they were giving us bad service. One of the bedrooms didn't have refrigerator and microwave even though they are some of the amenities provided by the hotel according to the website. The WORST part was the water-park. The pool was cold. People were freezing and the supervisor at that time was just not nice. The staff said they trying to fix the problem that night but the next morning the water-park was still freezing cold. We were willing to pay $115(tax included) because of the water-park. Other hotels for that price have breakfast provided but not for this hotel. We were very disappointed at this hotel. We'll not recommend other people to stay at this place. We ended up leaving the place unhappy.

“Will not return”

Had stayed here before but this time (12/4/11) will be our last. Check in was difficult do to staff not being sure how to check us (and others) in. I used reward points to pay for my room but they still wanted a credit card. I assumed this was for incidentals and handed it to them. I asked and was assured I would not be charged. I had that "not right" feeling about this one so asked for a receipt when I checked out. It showed a zero balance but it looked like it was paid. I didn't stick around because two other guests were questioning charges on their rooms. Sure enough when I got my statement there was a charge on my bill. Calling the hotel was easy enough to get a refund after a short wait but the Mgr Renee couldn't even muster an apology for the inconvenience.

Staff - I don't think I'm picky but none of these folks were engaged from the front desk to the employees in the pool. They just didn't seem to want to be there. The girl in the snack bar could not tell me the prices of some of the snacks when asked. The boy at the top of the waterslide was reading a book, occasionally looking up at the monitors to let the next person know when it was ok for them to go down the slide.

The restaurant onsite - The food was ok but there are soo many Great places to eat nearby it was a complete waste to spend a meal here. Additionally - When we walked in, we waited nearly 5 minutes for anyone to seat us. The only reason then was because the shift manager had just happened to walk over from the front desk and then saw us and so got some help. No apology from the Mgr or the boy who eventually came to seat us. He ended up being our waiter. Brought us our food but never came back to ask us how it was or refill our long empty glasses. Talk about feeling unwanted.

Back to the waterpark. I walked into the lounge to get my wife and I a beer. There is another customer standing in an otherwise empty lounge. We all waited several minutes before he walked into the adjacent restaurant to get us all some service. This time a lady comes out. Again, no apology for the wait. She simply asked what we needed, gave it to us and walked off.

I'm not saying this is the worst place I've ever been, but it's pretty bad. We took the kids there to have a good time and it just seemed like no one wanted us there. If I have to work that hard to get someone to take my money for average food and insulting levels of service I'll just go somewhere else. Big Disappointment!

Room Tip: If you still want to go here, get a room on the first floor. It makes it easy to get to the waterpa...

“Awfull for Waterpark Birthday Party for Kids”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Paid $80 for children's birthday party. Five kids and one adult.
Regular admission is $9.00 per head ie: $54
So for the extra money you would expect something if you are doing a birthday party...Right? Wrong. First you wait in line at the registration desk where they make sure they get your money and that is about all. There are no reserved tables so you get to go into the water park area and try to find a table and chairs for the party. Good luck!
Food is not included so bring CASH. I tried to get a pepperoni and a cheese pizza for the children-Nope. They were all out by 1:00 in afternoon. All they had left was Supreme and Sausage.
Asked them to put the food on my credit card but they don't accept plastic.
Asked for ATM but was told the Clarion hotel had none but I could walk to a local gas station for the ATM.
A couple of the children started to turn purple from cold water. After we got the staff to get the sauna working one staff tried to throw the cold children out.
There used to be an arcade in this waterpark but no more.
Aside from the one staff that tried to throw the kids out of sauna I found the rest of the kids working in the waterpark to be friendly.
