I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn West Des Moines on a recent business trip. Our business was in the nearby Jordan Creek Shopping Center, so location was a primary concern in choosing this location. Check in was friendly and quick. The rooms are as nice as many more expensive properties I've stayed in with a comfortable bed, large desk with good working chair, free wifi and Neutrogena amenities in the bathroom. Hotel is in process of upgrading TVs. In my room TV was flatscreen, upgraded and got premium channels. Location, near shopping center and residential area is quiet and convenient to Highway 35. Breakfast was substantial for $8.95 - choice of eggs, cereal, continental b'fast, oatmeal, fruit, juices and coffee. Hotel has pool, fitness center and small business center - did not take advantage of any of these but they looked nice.

This hotel is in a great location. It is smack dab in the middle of the Jordan Creek Shopping Center (which has everything imaginable!). However, the hotel is located close to a residential area which allows it to be very quiet. The front desk staff is EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. The restaurant and breakfast is wonderful, especially the southwestern egg rolls and the cottage cheese! The rooms are clean and comfortable, not especially fancy but comfortable beds. The pool area is nice, with a large kiddie pool. However, the hot tub is not very warm at all (I would say it is lukewarm). They also have a exercise room and a business center (didn't use either). The parking lot is small and oddly oriented. They have a wonderful lobby full of nice chairs and a fireplace. I will be staying here again.

This is a very well appointed inn. The location was perfect for a stop on our way to Wisconsin. Staff was very nice. I gave the room a lower rating because of the mattress and lack of pillows on the bed.
These mattresses are "adjustable," but I didn't see any difference using the dial to adjust it. Moreover, on the king bed it seemed split in two. It was not very comfortable. If one rolled to the middle too far, you felt like you were falling off.
I hope Hilton will not be using these mattresses in all of their brands.

This is a very nice hotel next to the premier shopping mall in the Des Moines area, Jordan Creek. First of all I'm not sure I have ever experienced quicker check in and check out service anywhere and the desk staff seemed caring and friendly. The negatives are somewhat minor but might make a difference to you as they did for me. First of all I've never understood the correlation between higher priced hotels and breakfasts. You would think the more you paid the better chances you had for a free breakfast but the Hilton has a breakfast buffet for around $8.00 if I remember right.

The second negative was the TV. I was in town by myself for a couple of nights and knew my alumni Drake University was playing Iowa. It was on the Big Ten network, not available on the limited cable channels in the room. So instead of spending a comfortable evening in my room I went to a local sports bar to watch. While there I noticed Dallas was playing the Buccaneers on a rare Saturday night football game so with about 10 minutes left in the BB game I decided to go back to the hotel and listen to the rest of the BB game on the radio and watch the rest of the football game. Guess what, of course no NFL network so no football game and when I went to tune in the BB game on the radio I found it to be a FM only radio. So sports fans I wouldn't recommend the Hilton for TV watching. Plus the TVs are an older style-certainly not HD nor a flat screen.
