“Good value for any traveler”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2010

This is a good mid-price property. However, our biggest complaint is that it was pouring rain when we arrived and there is no overhang to park your car while you are unloading. We got soaked since we were on a long trip and did not want to leave anything in the car overnight since we didn't know the area and the crime situation.

There is a car wash next door and there are lots of people in the area at all times. However, the staff was superb, the breakfast was filling and the room was spotless. I stayed at a higher grade Marriott later in the trip that had beds inferior to this location which says something about the bedding here. Everything worked properly except the swimming pool. It was closed for repairs.

“The motel where nothing ever gets fixed.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

For over $100, a total rip-off. Here's what we Marriott reward members/holders of Marriott Visa encountered on Aug. 13, 2009

1. Truly inadequate parking although we inquired beforehand. If you gave up and parked at car repair business nextdoor, workers arrived at 7:30 a.m. and you had to move your vehicle.

2. One of the two exit doors in back did not work (Isn't this a fire hazard?).

3. Only one chair per room "allowed," according to front desk/ Sure could have used it to enjoy our beer after awful parking lot and inoperable doors.

4. Jacuzzi permanently closed; pool under "maintenance" and closed.

5. Bagels for breakfast because all other breakfast muffins, etc. very stale and at least bagels are supposed to be "chewy."

6. Elevator only worked sporadically. Fellow guest said that he'd been staying there for 7 months (a probationary sentence? Overrcrowded local jails?) and that nothing ever got fixed, including the elevator.

Stay anywhere but this place!

“Mattress: A Roll to the Middle Model !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2008

My wife and I stayed at the La Porte Road, Fairfield Inn, Waterloo , Iowa, on 9/19/2008. The room was quite nice, clean, and well appointed, breakfast was good, but simple. Two complaints: the matress was a "roll to the middle" model and the bathroom lights (both the "wet" area and the sink area could use better lighting. Don't try to read in the 'wet" area, the light is quite dim. I told the desk clerk about the matress when checking out, but I am not certain she took my comments very seriously.

I often stay at Marriott properties. I will stay at this property again should I be in the area.

“Great Place to Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2007

Hello!

The staff at this hotel is incredible!! A note was in the room about how the staff and management really cared about our opinion. I'm an analytical person and saw some things that I thought the management would want to know about. They were not things that were worth complaining about to the staff. I wrote myself a note to remember what to tell management when I had a chance to call. I was busy and left for a bit the next morning of my two day stay. Imagine my very PLEASANT surprise to find Trudy, who cleaned the room, had told maintenance right away. My room was clean and the maintenance man was finishing up, when I got back! THEY worked quick. They took the little things seriously!

Also great is the hottub, pool for the kids, all day/night fresh coffee downstairs, (and inroom coffee), safe atmosphere, FREE WI-FI, FREE breakfast! both healthy and hearty options! (make your own waffles, hard-boiled eggs, 3 fresh fruit, milk, (2% and skim) 2 kinds of juice, breakfast sandwiches, and pancake/sausage on a stick. Oatmeal, mini muffins. Soooo many options!

VERY pleasant staff.

I'm a local and NOW I know which hotel I can recommend!!!

Things to note:
View is limited, and chair at desk was for people with very short legs, pool is small, but was never used by others but my kids!

MANY towels available at pool. Mall close by, many restaurants. Best Chinese restaurant (menu) nearby as well. Many close enough to walk to but really not safe, due to mall area traffic and lack of sidewalks, BUT can go to Burger King and Subway.

I got a GREAT deal using Priceline ($45.00) as they picked my place! It also filled up later, as someone looked for a room my second night and was full. Nice recommendable place!

Special recommendations for Trudy, also Morning Reception, and Maintenance Man!

Typical mid price chain hotel. Fairly plain room, seemed a bit cramped. Clean. Friendly front desk staff. Typical breakfast though they did have waffle irons and breakfast sandwiches for the microwave. WiFi worked fine, so did the TV.

First night all OK but old A/C broke down on 2nd day. They moved us next door, another oldie. It cooled fine but was so noisy I turned it off after cooling the room down so we could sleep. If you get a room with the original metal front Amana A/C units, check for operation and sound level before unpacking. I saw other rooms with new units.

There are several newer motels in the area priced like the Fairfield and likely nicer. We normally stay at the Comfort Inn next door for about $15 less a night and comparable quality but switched this time to stay with other family.
