“If You Like Bedbugs, This Is The Place For You!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We stayed here one night earlier this month. As truck drivers, we wanted a night out of the truck, and this place was convenient to the truck stop next door. The room itself was pretty shabby, but suited our needs for a good night sleep in a big(ger) bed. Or so we thought. Granted, we didn't expect much, but certainly did NOT expect to get what we got.

We left very early the following morning, and I didn't realize until later that same morning that my arms, legs, and other body parts were beginning to sprout with bedbug bites. I ended up taking Benadryl for the severe itch for almost a week. It is now almost 3 weeks later, and they're still healing.

I first contacted Choice Hotels on the 3rd day after check-out by email. After NOT receiving a response within the 72 hours promised in the auto-generated email response I received, I called them. The CSR told me that I needed to give the motel manager 72 more hours to respond. When I didn't hear back in those 72 hours, I called again. This new CSR acted much more helpful, stating that the complaint had never even gone to the motel manager, and he would make sure he sent it right away. He also told me that the complaint would be referred to their Insurance/Legal Department. This 2nd CSR told me to contact the motel manager in a couple days. After these NEW couple days were up, I contacted Choice Hotels again, just to make sure that we were all on the same page, before I called the motel manager. According to CSR #3, the complaint had finally been forwarded to the motel manager, but that the motel was "non-responsive." Basically the info I got from CSR #3 was that a complaint of this nature is only handled by the motel manager, and at this point, Choice Hotels would not be doing anything to resolve the issue.

I called the motel manager, who told me that if I neglected to tell the motel staff before checking out that I'd been bitten, it was no longer his responsibility. He said it was his word against mine, and for all he knew, we had bedbugs in our truck! He took my name and number and said he'd check into it, but I'm not holding my breath for any actions that would make me ever want to stay with them, or any Choce Hotel, again.

By the way, I reported it to the Health Department, and they're sending someone out to close the room down.

Beware!

Room Tip: Don't stay here, that's my suggestion for choosing a good room.

“If you like bedbugs, this is your place!!”

Woke up at 1:30 AM feeling like something was in bed with me. Turned on light and found the bed was full of bedbugs. Gathered my things and spent the rest of the night in the car. The office was closed between midnight and 6:00 AM and nobody answered the after hours phone. At 6:00 AM I went to the office with my concern and was told I needed to wait til 9:00 when the manager came in. At 8:00 AM I called the Scott County Health Dept. and an inspector came out right away. She inspected the room I was in and the rooms adjacent to mine and ultimately closed all 4 rooms for bedbug infestation and ordered them cleaned up. She also told me she has been to this property previously for the same reason just 2 weeks prior. After all this the manager refused my request for a refund and even had the gall to sugest I may have been the one to bring the bedbugs in. I have a copy of the Health Dept's report and will be contacting the EconoLodge corporate office with my complaint. I encountered considerable loss of time and the expense of cleaning everything that was possibly contaminated.

“Do not stay here...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

I recently did a cross country trip and decided to stay at the Econo Lodge. I never had a bad experience with the brand before, but this time changed it all.

First of all, there is no true road that goes to the hotel. You have to drive through a parking lot of semi-trucks in order to reach this place. I pulled up and the lighting of the parking lot was ok, but not as bright as I would have liked for safety reasons.

I went in and the woman at the desk was pleasant and helped me quickly to get a room. I wanted no smoking, so I was on the third floor. I went to my car to grab my things and when I went towards the stairwell, I noticed there was no elevator (which was bad because I had to make 3 trips up the steps because I had pets with me). As I walked up the first flight and got to the second floor, I noticed a door down the hall with a sign that said "24 hour spa and massage palor..." which I am guessing was not an "amenity" they would publicize.

The hotel was poorly ventilated. My room was, well, as clean as they could get it. I didn't want to walk around without my shoes, and I didn't even really want to sleep on the sheets (which didn't really fit the bed and were thin like tissue paper). The air conditioner cooled the room, however it did not make it cold by any measure.

I had to go to my car a few times in order to bring my stuff and the stuff for my pets, and when I went to my car the second time, I grabbed my knife to have in my room. There were warnings on the door to lock the bolt lock and the chain lock, which freaked me out.

I understand this is a truck stop hotel, and that sleeipng in a real bed is better than sleeping in a truck, but I would think that the standards would be a bit higher, and that the extra "amenity" would have been put in an less conspicuous space.

I am really surprised that Econo Lodge would use this hotel and put their name on it (the lady at the desk informed me they purchased it a few years ago). Bad decision Econo Lodge, I'll think twice before picking the Econo Lodge brand as my first choice.

This place should be condemned! Hole in the bathroom wall, dirty shower/tub. Gray dingy towels. Door knob on bathroom door broke (probably from putting the hole in the wall!). Stains on carpet (DON'T want to know what they were from!). Horrible place!!!
