Awful from beginning to end. Original room had such a pugnant stench/odor that we had to be moved to another room the first night. They had no other room so we had to move back to the original room the second night and the housekeeper was supposed to deep clean the room before we went back in. Well, they didn't clean the room (and apparently hadn't been cleaned before we came in the first night). There were human fluid stains (blood) and other stuff on the bed sheets. There was black mold in the bathroom. We were told the hotel was "old" so we should expect that. The toilets overflowed (without any help) and we were told that a lot of the toilets have been overflowing. The general cleanliness of the room was awful overall. I overheard the housekeepers talking at the morning breakfast (yes, they do everything there) that she had to DNR the room and that it was awful. Sure she didn't know I overheard. The outside pool area has room A/C unit venting into the room without any other A/C or ventilation so the room temp was around 100 degrees (high humidity). I had to watch my kids swim through the glass as it was lika a sauna in there. Manager did refund the room cost, so that I can't complain about. Did not live up to the brand name for us.

“Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

I stayed with my family of four boys. We love the Holiday inn express chain and this stay was no different. The breakfast was great, pool was nice. We are a swimming family so the pool is important to us. This pool was 4 feet on the shallow end and 8 on the deep, so a nice sized pool for a hotel.

The elevator was on high demand and had to take the stairs a few times, but it was good for my legs.

“Nice place to stay while visiting Nauvoo, IL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2011

Stayed three nights. Had very late check-in the first night. My room key was waiting for me at 12:30 a.m. Breakfast was great. Room was clean and comfortable. Air conditioner worked great.

“Was Worse then Expected”

Really did not want to stay here but the Hampton Inn in Keokuk (STAY THERE FOR SURE), was going through new ownership and they were not Taking any reservation untill the HILTON corp approved/ Reviewed the hotel again. New going in this Hotel was not going to be the best, but there are not many choice is Keokuk. Hey....but they have a brand new sign outside. AND I AM A HOLIDAY INN POINTS MEMBER

ROOMS:
NOT clean, Looks like they just vacuum the main walk areas and that is it. Bathrooms the walls were cracking, tile was cracked. Dust eveywhere. Was Scared to spend the night......Worse hotel I have ever stayed in. You can here everything in the rooms. ONLY PLUS the rooms are very large.

Most rooms look over the Pool and you can hear everything in the pool.

FOOD:
Hotel scared me and did not want to eat there!

GYM:
All the Equipment Was broken when I stayed there. FOR REAL!

SERVICE:
They Checked me out of room instead of checking out someone else. So the staff came into the room twice when I was sleeping. Called the front desk and they seemed really not to Care. Asked to Change rooms, and they said that it would cause them problems because of people checking in the next day.....

I will NEVER stay here again, would rather stay in Fort Madison then in this hotel. I guess Holiday INN does not check their Hotels for Standers that they must Keep. Did How ever here the reason that the hotel is not in the Best Shape is that it has been for SALE for 2 years or so.....Sure that they are just going to run it into the ground. We Shall see....

“Will try not to stay there again”

I stayed in this hotel for a week. First, the positives:

The room looked modern and clean. There was a fridge and coffee maker in the room. The fridge was quiet. I loved the ac/heater unit. It had a remote control, so if you are in bed and it is too loud, you can turn it down or shut it off. Hairdryer in the bathroom and mints on the night stand. The front desk people were the best I have seen anywhere. Absolutely friendly and helpful. They even opened breakfast up for our large group an hour early to accomodate our schedules. A+ for service!

The negatives: Popcorn ceiling in the bathroom was mildewed. You just can't clean a popcorn ceiling, I don't know what they were thinking. Ceiling in the rest of the room was trashed too, poorly drywalled and mismatched paint. I was on the street side of the hotel and it was SO noisy. The local younguns race around the strip with their loud exhausts and it sounded like the window was open, the sound insulation was zero. Most of the time the room didn't smell, I was in a non-smoking room. However, in the mornings smoke would rise, I assume, from the floor below and come in through the bathroom vents. Every morning I woke up with my eyes swollen shut. Must be a ton of allergens in the room. No power outlet by the coffee maker, so I had to perch it next to the tv or in the bathroom to make coffee.

Will only stay there again if everything else in town is booked up again, as was the case on this trip.
