Super 8 is usually a pretty mediocre place to stay. The Super 8 in Fort Madison is par for the course. The staff was OK and the room was clean and not worn. The main problem we had was we were in a no smoking room, but you wouldn't have known it. Our room smelled of cigarette smoke all night long and in the morning the hall was thick with smoke. All of the smoking rooms are directly across the hall from the non-smoking ones. Perhaps if they realigned their rooms the smoke wouldn't be so bad...or be like Marriott's and make everything smoke-free! We found it so irritating that we checked out early and found another place to stay.

Convenient location for business travel. Rooms are average but clean, and the staff is accomodating to all types of guests. The breakfast is sparse compared to other chains.

I've always found Super 8 motels interesting. They're often either *really* good or *really* bad. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground with them. The Ft Madison one, however, may just be the most average motel I've ever stayed in. It wasn't cheap for what it is, but it wasn't expensive either. The rooms aren't new, but they're not exactly worn either. The exterior is dire, at best, but the interior and rooms are just fine. The breakfast was *slightly* above the chain motel average, as were the staff, but the place is noisey and slightly tricky to find coming from the north. And then, just to confuse me even further, the vending machines sell stuff (for a motel) *cheaply*. It's as peculiar as Ft Madison itself is.

Was in town for business, and just stayed one night. I usually stay at Super 8's in the Midwest because you always know what you are getting. Checked in around midnight, clerk was friendly and accomadating. The room was simple and clean with a 27" tv. The next morning I asked for a late check out, since I wanted to come back after my appointment and take a nap. They happily agreed to my request with no problem. Even the maids were friendly. There is a small excerciese room, and the breakfast was ok. Can't remember seeing a pool though. Overall I have never have been let down by Super 8. Thanks!!
