The first problem encountered was the lack of a roll-away bed that I had requested when I reserved a room two months prior. After I checked in, I went to the room to see if it was acceptable and found that the roll-away was not present. I went to the front desk and told them what I had requested. They said they would have one put in there in a little bit. I told them that I was going to a local event and would not be back until later that night. They said the bed would be put in there long before I returned.
When I returned, I found that the bed was still missing. I went to the front desk again, and told them about it. I was told it was too late and they weren't going to deliver the bed that late at night. It was midnight, but they were supposed to deliver it "long" before I returned. I told them that I had paid extra for the roll-away (about $25) and if they wouldn't deliver the bed, I wanted a refund. They told me that I would have to speak to the manager (who was conveniently out) to get a refund. Bottom line....I never got a refund or credit.
The second problem was my friend who was staying with me got up in the middle of the night to get a drink from one of the hotels vending machines. He forgot his key and couldn't back in the room. I was sound asleep and didn't hear him knocking on the door. He went to the front desk and told them about his issue. They couldn't figure out how to activate a card to open the room door. So they gave him another room. What I don't understand is how they could make a key for another room, but couldn't make one for the room he was staying in. Ridiculous!
The manager was an idiot. She kept making excuses and saying she couldn't do anything about any of it. Of course, she was never on site, and we had to call her at "her" convenience.
I will never stay in a Comfort Inn Hotel ever again, and would suggest that anyone reading this avoid them as well. By the way, their corporate office is no better. They can't control the local hotels in their own words. I bet if another chain had issues like this, the management team would be the first to go. So, if you go to Ft. Madison, avoid this place. That is, unless you want to have a terrible experience.
