I can't fault the facility much, as it's clean and in good repair. It's just the personnel and the policies that leave a bad taste in my mouth. In previous trips to this area, I'd stayed in Dubuque and will do that in the future even if it's an extra 30 minute drive.
There's a great drag strip a few miles down the road from the motel. Those people work very hard at promoting their special races and in bringing in people from all over the country. Unfortunately, the Comfort Inn is ready as they jack up the rates considerably during those weekends. Capitalism is fine, but greed is always ugly.
Don't get too excited about the advertised hot breakfast. If you want to make yourself a waffle or warm up a pre-packaged bagel you'll have a hot start to your day. But it's not like a Hampton with actual hot food someone has cooked.
The front desk woman was about as surly as possible without actually cursing me out loud. When my key stopped working halfway through my stay, I had to walk th length of the hotel twice in order to get a working one. I'm disabled and that's a hard thing for me to do. When I asked the woman what had happened, she shrugged and said "they do that". No apologies of any kind. I think that would have been all I needed at the time. In addition, the handicapped parking was in odd locations and there were no carts, etc. to help with luggage.
As others have mentioned, the Country Inn restaurant across the street is very good.
In a nutshell, for $130 a night you can do much, much better.
