My spouse and I stayed here as did our friends. We were in Dyersville to visit friends and of course we checked out the Field of Dreams movie site it was maybe a five minute drive from the hotel. Dyersville is a quiet, lovely little farm town and I was pleased with the visit. The type of place where you sit on someone's porch and everyone waves at each other and is friendly.
I didn't totally get that vibe at the Comfort Inn. It wasn't bad, but after spending the day in the town checking out the shops and hanging out with friends, I figured I'd get a fantastic display of customer service. Jenny checked us in around 7pm Saturday night. There were about five people checking in all together so she was a little busy. We were the last of the bunch and she answered some questions we had and was nice and gave us a map. The small thing the irked me a bit was she had a friend with an infant standing at the desk waiting for her to finish checking people in, and so I feel rushed in those types of situations, so they can get back to their conversation. The lobby was nice and clean, and the halls were the same. It wasn't the least bit worn down.
The room was very basic, exactly what you'd expect at a Comfort Inn. The room seemed clean and the bedbug check was fine - as a matter of fact, the mattress cover seemed new, which I don't get very often when I do my routine bedbug check. The TV was the older tube style, no biggie since we didn't really watch any TV. The two downers were that the room was cool, but never quite seemed to be cool enough. It felt humid and the carpet felt wet and sticky. Otherwise, room was sufficient to sleep in for a night. We left about a half hour later and didn't get back until about 10.20pm. The pool closed at 11pm - they have a very decent pool and hot tub, and I wanted to take part in that. I got up to the room and called Jenny to ask when the Subway just across the way closed - we'd eaten a lot of party food and had alcohol and wanted something light with an actual vegetable in it. She said 11pm. I told her I really wanted to sit in the hot tub for a bit before bed but I'd better run over to Subway first. So I did. It's just across the parking lot. By the way, they closed at midnight on Saturdays. Ugh. I walked into the lobby with my veggie sub at exactly 10.40pm. Jenny was just walking from the pool area. She said, "Oh, did you want to use the pool?" I said, "Well, not if you already closed it.." She said, "Yeah, I just did". I was really irked about this as she knew what my plan was. I had enough time to take five minutes to put my suit on and sit in the tub for 10 or 15 minutes and I feel like she did this on purpose. I would have left at 11pm.
In the morning, the girls at the desk were nice, both wearing flip flops which I felt was a little too casual for a front desk, but maybe that's the norm for Dyersville. I got a cup of coffee at the continental breakfast. We were set to have breakfast away from the hotel, but from what I saw, there were hard boiled eggs and some other hot items. All in all, a decent stay considering we didn't spend a whole lot of time in the room. But I felt it was a little overpriced for a Comfort Inn...but maybe the movie site allows them to charge a little more than usual.
