“Wonderful, warm and secluded.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

We recently stayed at QWL over Labor day weekend and we loved it. Carol and Linda were so nice. They were helpful with reccomendations on what to see in the area and nearby restaurant choices and would do anything to make your stay with them more enjoyable. We stayed in the original lodge that is very comfortable and clean. The room we stayed in was delightful and the breakfasts were not "fancy" but very good. What we liked most about QWL was the seclusion. Far enough out to be in "the country" but still close enough to civilization not to be out of touch. Perfect setting for a romantic getaway. We will stay here again. You'll love it. I think we will try the new lodge house when we come back, it's beautiful.

“Already planning the next trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

My husband suggested a trip to Galena for our anniversary so I started looking around for some place other than a hotel to stay at, we wanted something different. We definitely found it at Quiet Walker Lodge, the place is gorgeous! Carol came out to greet us (by our first names!) and showed us our room and around the lodge area. She had even run out to get the bottle of champagne that my husband had requested. She made us feel so welcome and right at home. The room was very nice and had everything we needed. The breakfast the next day was wonderful, homemade bread, fresh fruit, french toast and ham, just what I needed to start my day shopping! Carol (the innkeeper) and Linda (the owner) were so friendly and offered several suggestions for us to do. I enjoyed talking to them both during our stay, Carol gave me a great hint for making my towels as soft as theirs! I love that Linda is working on her gardening so that maybe on our next stay we will be eating from her garden! It was a perfect weekend, only wish we would have stayed 2 nights now. I am planning a girlfriends trip and this will be a perfect place to enjoy a quiet evening, sitting around the fire, drinking some wine, talking with my closest friends (after shopping of course!). It might seem to be a bit out of the way but trust me, it is worth it!! The drive to Galena was about 25 minutes and in the scheme of things it was nothing at all. We will definitely be back!

“Definitely plan to return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

My husband planned our anniversary getaway. I was very excited! We drove up the driveway into the woods and Carol came out to greet us right away and show us to our room. She had cookies and lemonade set out for us. A fresh, beautifully scented rose from their greenhouse and vase were in my room waiting for me, for us to take home. Our room had a heart shaped hot tub with a stone waterfall type wall, so we could listen to trickling water all night long. (one of my favorite sounds!) The room had special extra touches which I appreciated. Flickering flameless candles were all around the room and hot tub. Cheese and crackers, bottled water and 4 cans of pop were stocked in the fridge. The sheets and towels smelled so nice and were VERY soft. So much so, that I asked her the next day what it was that she did to make them so soft. Since I have been home, I am trying her trick, and it works wonderfully! When we got back from dinner, she had started the firepit out back so we could sit as the sun set and enjoy the quiet nature by the fire with a glass of wine. Breakfast was delicious. The hosts were very friendly and we found ourselves staying a little longer than we had anticipated talking to them. We definitely plan to return someday. She gave us a tour of the other rooms and there are many wonderful rooms to chose from!

“Not likely to return”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2010

We love the area of northern Iowa. This bed and breakfast has beautiful wooded surroundings. We had stayed at this bed and breakfast inn several times many years ago, but will not return. We had booked a 2 night stay and were disappointed to return after a day of enjoying the local activities to find the bed not made, dirty coffee cups and no clean towels. The breakfast was ok, but better suited for a tea room, not a hearty Iowa breakfast.

We were sorry that this guest did not have a positive experience. As we stated in an email to them, we place in every room a placard (also on our website) saying we are trying to conserve water and energy. If a guest stays with us more than one night, as part of our support of the Dubuque Go Green Sustainability Plan, we launder linens on the third day unless requested otherwise by the guest. All the guest needed to do is request more towels, the dishes washed or the bed made and we would have been happy to do so. We respect our guests desire to have privacy while they are staying at QWL, therefore we always say if you need anything or wish housekeeping, please let us know.

“Quiet, Romantic, Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2009

My husband wanted to get away from it all. Quiet Walker Lodge was just the right place for this. It is very secluded and surrounded by nature. A short distance away was a 25 mile nature trail that we hiked along. This would be a great place to bike as well. Mike and Carol are great hosts and made our weekend special.
