“Wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We decided on a last minute getaway without our kids in Dubuque, IA. Our reservation was made the night befoe and we arrived in the late afternoon. We were greeted warmly by the desk clerk and checked in quickly. The hotel's renovations were great and our room was luxurious, clean, and overlooked the Mississippi River. There was free parking. There were free shuttles to the casinos and many restaurants within walking distance. The breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Carolyn's was delicious and reasonably priced. We will definately be back!

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the Mississippi face the east and the morning sun over the river is a great vi...

“Great renovation of a beautiful, historic property”

I have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel 3 times since the hotel was renovated. I am always amazed at how well the hotel was modernized while retaining it's historic character.

The public areas are amazing. It was very nice that they added an indoor pool and fitness center. Both area well designed, clean and well appointed. Cleanliness, friendliness and staff professionalism has always been consistent.

I have stayed in both basic king room as well as in a whirlpool suite. The whirlpool suite is huge and there are beautiful windows right near the whirlpool. Regardless of the room type, beds are very comfortable with high quality linens. All rooms have a Keurig coffee maker, HDTV's, Aveda products, snacks and stocked mini-fridge.

If you are in Dubuque or SW Wisconsin, this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: Corner rooms have great views of downtown as well as the river (in some rooms).

“Nice place, good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We had the king suite with a couch for 119 +
free parking in a downtown hotel, shuttles to the casinos, Comp. Bathrobes, nice touch, great towels. Excellent staff.
Great bedding, below average water pressure, nice sized bathroom
average sized pool 4 ft max. depth , hot tub was not as warm as most. glitches with the on site restaurant,( but not many other dining options near the hotel.) but were rectified quickly.
The room was clean, furnished nicely, but a bit on the small side. (this hotel is over 80 years old, but not showing it's age)
I would not pay more than 119 for this room. Average value.

“What a Change!”

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Julien to celebrate our anniversary. We wanted a location not too far from home (90 minutes), but with some fun city options. The hotel is beautiful - we were impressed with the renovations, including the Spa, pool and fitness area. The last time we stayed was more than 20 years ago. A number of nice, trendy, yet fun restaurants in the area and the shopping, while limited, was fun. We also really enjoyed the River Museum.

“Wow - what a great remodel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We came for a funeral, found respite in this nice hotel. First of the berievement price was easy on the pocketbook for us and the other 8 families in our party. The rooms and lobby are very tastefully appointed, modern but in keeping with the historic nature of the building. The gym has a few but well maintained pieces of equipment. What a nice surprise over-all.
