“One of the best B&B's we've ever been to.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2010

We LOVED the Hancock House. We were coming to Dubuque on a retreat with 10 colleagues from our work. When another B&B accidently double booked us we turned to the Hancock House. What a great place.

First of all this is probably the nicest B&B, in the nicest neighborhood, with the nicest view in the whole city. They cut us an amazing deal as a corporate rate (since we were renting 5 rooms). When we saw the place we were amazed. The "suite" rooms are massive, simply incredible. We took one of the "standard" rooms, which was still wonderful (Mr. Hancock's room had the best view in the entire house). The suite rooms all have hot tubs, which our colleagues loved. Ours had a claw foot tub/shower.

The fridge was well stocked with beer and wine (it won't blow you away if you are a parties, but for us it was perfect for having a Bud and sitting on the porch at night). There is a soda fountain, which is great for meetings.

In terms of comparison, the only area that other B&B's might excel was the caliber of breakfast. We have stayed at other B&B's in Dubuque (specifically the Richard's house) where we felt blown away by the breakfast. We weren't "blown away" by the portions and spread, but we were "pleasantly surprised" by how nice it was.

We'd STRONGLY recommend the Hancock house!

“Difficult to imagine a better B&B experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

My wife an I decided to go to the Hancock House to celebrate our 20th anniversary weekend. We really did not know what to expect as we had never stayed in a B &B before. In fact we were a little nervous about staying in someone's house. In spite of the wet weather we enjoyed the warmth of this fantastic historical house and our hosts. The breakfast was a wonderful experience getting to know our fellow guests and enjoying the wonderful food.

“Top notch hospitality at a gorgeous old Victorian house!”

What a fantastic B & B! This beautiful old Victorian house is set high on a hill in historic downtown Dubuque, which means it has the best view in town. We sat in the hot tub in our 3rd floor room and gazed out across the Mississippi River (that's right, you get the view and the hot tub at the same time!) But what truly made our stay was the sweet host and hostess. They are so gracious and hospitable: they took the time to help us find a great place to eat, and made an amazingly delicious breakfast! Also, for all you tea lovers out there, they have shelves upon shelves of different varieties of tea for you to try! Give this place a try--you won't be disappointed!

“Awesome Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2010

Returning to The Hancock House is like coming home to visit with family (but only better!). Chuck and Susan are the most gracious hosts. They open up their wonderful home to you, feed you fabulous breakfast and then spend time chatting with you. We love spending time at The Hancock House to get away from the busy lives we lead. We'll be back!

The Hancock House has become a yearly tradition since our honeymoon 13 years ago! We stay at least once a year. The house is a treasure that is well valued and maintained by the personable hosts. Find them on Facebook!
