“Great place to stay”

New Years Eve’s we stayed at the Red Stone Inn. The inn was a mansion that has been tastefully updated, keeping most of the original furniture, all the woodwork and portraits. However, you can get a room with a Jacuzzi.
From the time we arrived we were treated like royalty. Our luggage was carried to our room by the owner, who was very friendly.
In the parlor were fresh cookies, a welcoming atmosphere to set, read or just relax.
We were asked what time we wanted breakfast. The breakfast of fruit, rolls, omelets and sausages was fresh when we came down for breakfast. We ate in the beautiful formal dining room, served by the owner.
We had a great stay in a mansion. Every time we go to Dubuque we stay at the Red Stone Inn because we feel comfortable and relaxed. The mansion is within walking distance to the theatre and downtown. It’s clean and quiet and the breakfast is delicious.
We have stayed at the Red Stone Inn five times and every time it’s been a great experience. I would recommend it to anyone.

“Spur of the moment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We were looking for a convenient place to downtown so that we could walk. Since I have never stayed at a bed and breakfast before we thought we would give it a try. It was great and the owner was very accomodating. We were shown to our room and he carried our bags and provided us with a cup of peanuts and 2 bottles of water. The room was very comfortable and the best thing. No kids running up and down the hall screaming. Very peaceful and a great nights rest. Breakfast the next day was done very nicely with great amount of choices. Would definitely recommend this place.

Room Tip: Look at all the room choices.

“Step back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

We stayed in Dubuque instead of Galena because we just needed one night. Splitting the trip between both cities is well worth doing because each has its own charm. The Redstone Inn is gorgeous. Its been under new ownership for about 18 months and the innkeeper works his tail off. The inn is very clean, spacious, and within walking distance to Cable Car Square and the shops/eateries on Main Street. Diamond Jo's is about one mile away. The bed was very comfortable, the shower and bath water hot, and great amenities such as sundry items, coffee maker, television, and snacks /water provided in the room. The selection of juices, coffee, tea, bakery, granola, and the special hot breakfast of the day was more than ample. The innkeeper couldn't have been friendlier and more accomodating. I wish him much success. There is no elevator though but that's not uncommon with historic residences. The steps are easy to navigate and the innkeeper will tote your baggage for you if you like. Give the Redstone a try. You will not regret this wonderful step back in time.

“A wonderful surprise!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We had a wonderful stay. The rooms are all very cute and the place is centrally located so that you can walk to many places. The inn is VERY quiet. The owner is very friendly. We found this on the internet and thought we'd give it a try. We were so pleasantly surprised at how nice it was and very reasonably priced. We will be back and will tell all our friends!

Room Tip: We stay in Paul's room and it was very nice. It is small, but we really didn't spend a lot...

“Pictures are Deceiving”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

When we walked in the smell of air fresheners was overpowering. You could tell that at one time they probably allowed smoking on the premises so there were lots of different air deodorizers going. I could still smell smoke and by the next morning so could my husband. The photos used on their website are several years old -- probably taken in the heyday of the inn. Our room was ok. You can tell that the property isn't being maintained to what it probably once was. Breakfast was a buffet but the manager then brought out an egg bake and sausage and coffee/tea if you didn't want milk or juice on the buffet.
