I stayed at the Comfort Inn Des Moines Airport for two nights over the July 4 weekend while we visited my in-laws. When we arrived at the check-in counter in the early evening of July 3, there was no one there to check us in. When the person finally came a few minutes later, there was no apology for my wait. As she checked me in, she told me that they were trying to give the Fourth of July holiday off to as many of the housekeeping staff as possible. She said that to do this, they were asking people if they wanted an express type of housekeeping. She said they'd still bring towels, but wouldn't make the beds. I don't stay in hotels very often, and when I do, having the beds made up by someone other than me is one of my favorite things (I know, I'm easy to please). So I said that I would like the full housekeeping please. But having to say that made me feel, well, bad. But at the same time, she didn't mention I'd get a discount for the express housekeeping. I thought it was strange to even ask guests if they wanted express housekeeping.
We'd booked one of the two-room suites (sitting area and separate sleeping area, and it worked out well. The room was very nicely sized. Room was fairly clean (and yes, the beds were made up when we returned to the room July 4).
Upon check out we had to wait for a clerk again.
Because of the "who gives a care" attitude of the staff, we'll try another place the next time we're in DSM.
We didn't eat the breakfast here either morning but it looked like the average continental offering.
