“Breathtaking hotel! What a wondrous stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2010

My husband booked us a room at the West Baden for a birthday/getaway trip...we were attending his class reunion and decided to make a weekend of it. I had never been to the hotel and was blown away by how gorgeous everything was! The hotel is breathtaking! The dome is simply spectacular at any time of the day! Our room was regal- there is simply not another word for it...we felt like royalty! He suprised me with room service the morning of my birthday and they rolled it in, with white linen tablecloth, etc with great flourish! I loved every moment and took tons of pictures! We visited the casino and played for a bit... walked the grounds and saw the springs (dont lean in and take a deep breath! Whoa!) and we looked at all the memorabilia and pictures.... truly a romantic resort!

“The 8th Wonder of the World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

From start to finish my stay at the West Baden was perfection.
The valet staff, concierge and front desk crew were informative and eager to assist. Free valet parking is a plus. Our suite was well appointed with beautiful furnishings and was SPOTLESSLY clean.
My family loved the flat screen TVs and wave radio. The bedding was incredibly comfortable; I got in big trouble for falling asleep early! The robes were so plush and the turndown slippers were a nice touch. How can I go any further without mentioning the views - SPECTACULAR! We were fortunate enough to have a balcony room overlooking the incredible domed ceiling of the hotel's lobby - this view would have been worth the price of the room alone! From a dining standpoint the lunch and breakfast pricing was reasonable, my two picky kids and two pickier parents all loved the food and the attentive service. If you go to West Baden don't miss the chance to purchase to have an ice cream cone or a cup of Starbucks out on the veranda. For dinner accommodations we wanted to venture out - so the front desk suggested Hagan's restaurant at the Donald Ross Golf Course - GREAT IDEA - cool golf course atmosphere, great food, and cold beer. I plan to go back and play this course. I would also highly recomend taking the tour of the property - we loved our informative stroll through the gardens.

“Would be rated among the best anywhere in the world.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

When my wife and I arrived for an anniversary weekend, I was prepared to be disappointed. Instead, the West Baden resport exceeded all expectations and provided one of the most enjoyable weekends of our 23-year marriage. The nearby French Lick resort, under the same management, features a casino, bowling alley, and tremendously pretentious and overpriced restaurant, the 1875 Steakhouse. One mile down the road, West Baden is elegant in every respect, inccluding a genuinely impressive restaurant. The rooms are large and comfortable, housekeeping was admirable, and the staff were pleasant and efficient. The building itself, however, is the star. Known as "the Eighth Wonder of the World" when it was built, it was a genuine architectural marvel. After millions of dollars of renovations it is still startlingly beautiful. I had never heard of the Cook family of Indianapolis, who largely funded the renovations, until this visit. After seeing the result of their efforts, I'd like to shake their hands. Don't let the remote location fool you. This is a hotel that would be rated among the best anywhere in the world.

“Expensive, but Truly Worth the Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

We had an absolutely incredibly beautiful room with balcony on the 6th floor. I truly would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly for a special occasion( was my birthday). Spectacular view of dome, lobby. All the amenities in a very spacious bath room.
Room itself unreservedly magnificent.
It is worth the special trip to visit here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Mixed Feelings on Anniversary Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2010

The resort and grounds are absolutely beautiful, as are the rooms. We had a balcony room and left our French doors open to listen to the music and watch the atrium change colors. Well worth the extra money. The room was huge and had every amenity available, including turn down with cookies. Service was mixed. Front desk personnel were friendly and very helpful. The pools were pretty and warm, but the outdoor pool was very dirty. My husband went to the bar to bring back drinks and it took him 30 minutes. There was a family waiting on drinks from a waiter and it took them 40 minutes for their Cokes to be delivered. We ate our anniversary dinner in Sinclair's. The hostess was very nice, but our waitress looked really flustered and maybe even a touch bored. The man who did our reservation for dinner said Sinclair's would do something nice for our anniversary (after he asked if we were celebrating anything) but no one even mentioned it. The carriage ride at night was beautiful and Steve was full of historical stories. We ordered room service breakfast and was told 20 minutes, and it took over an hour. When my husband called about it, they were not very nice when they told him it was coming, and it still took 15 minutes after that. We had to hurry to eat to make check out on time. We were just disappointed expecting a special stay. It's a pretty package, but the staff needs some training on customer service.
