If you’re looking for a simple place to get away where you won’t be disturbed, this is a good candidate. I stayed in one of the camping cabins, all of which are set in a wooded area. The first thing that hit me was the rustic look and wonderful pine smell as I opened the door. The cabins are simple and small, but clean and comfortable. The common bathroom for the camping cabins (standard cabins have their own internal bathroom while camping cabins share a common bathroom) was also very clean. However, there is only one woman’s and one men’s bathroom for all five cabins. Since each bathroom has only one shower and one toilet, there is a good chance of lines in the morning if all five cabins are occupied. The only other negative is the campground is right at the Hwy 120 & Hwy 5 intersection – so there is some traffic noise.
Overall, I’d give the cabins and campground a good rating. If you’re on a budget and looking for some seclusion, this is a good place. However, if you’re looking for a nice hotel with a swimming pool, try the Homestead Inn, which is right downtown Shipshewana.
