“Acceptable for an overnight stay”

We stayed at this hotel for only one night since we were driving through Indiana. It cost us $53 including taxes. We chose this hotel because it was cheap and the free Wifi. They also have a free breakfast that starts at 6 AM and let me tell you, it is not worth it. By the time we got there at 8:45 am, it was already picked through. Cereal and stale looking pastries and waffles is what they had. Beverages included coffee, orange juice, and milk.

The front desk attendant was nice and gave us what we requested : a first floor double bed room. When asked about the free Wifi after we had paid, she said some occupants had complained that the Wifi was not working in their rooms, though it was working in the front office. She assured us she had contacted the owner who was on his way over to rectify the issue. We were pretty unhappy about this, as this was one of the main reasons we chose to stay here. But when we tried to access the internet, we had no issues. I should note our room was only a few doors down from the front office so maybe that is why it worked out.

There is a a bar (Brewski's?) directly next door to the hotel but luckily our room was on the other side of the hotel, so we never had any noise issues that other reviewers had. If you stay here, be sure to request a room on the opposite side of the bar and hotel so you do not have to deal with the noise. It still made me very nervous to be staying there as there was a large crowd outside of the bar and I had a car packed with items.

This hotel is OLD. It probably was built in the 80's and you can tell--from the old printed bedspreads to the decor hanging on the wall and the big box TV . It needs a major renovation. The plus side: it was clean--no stains on the sheets, no bugs, no smells. Even though the bathroom was extremely dated, it was clean. That I can appreciate and that is what I expect given the price. We weren't expecting the Ritz Carlton here.

Overall, I would suggest staying here if you are looking for a cheap one night stay. It is fine if that is your need. Would not suggest staying here if you have to stay more than that. Though the hotel was clean and sufficient, it still made me uneasy given the location (close to truck stop and bar) and the outdated room. If you are staying for more than one night, spend about $40 more and choose the Hampton Inn one street over.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the other side of the hotel away from the bar and truck stop

“Just barely beats sleeping in the car.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2010

Have stayed here several times strictly because of cost. Place needs a major renovation and the bar next door (Brewski's) can be loud. One of the showers can barely put out enough water to wet a washcloth, let alone a whole body. The heaters are also a bit on the loud side. I skip the continental breakfast, I get better quality from the Speedway gas station down the road. Probably ought to say something positive, so it is conveniently located right next to I-65.

“Integrity is not lost!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2008

Because of recent flooding, I found myself checking into EconoLodge at 4am. The clerk on duty was very courteous and welcoming. I asked about a discount for government employees and I was informed that although EconoLodge does not have this because their prices are already reasonable, they did have a coupon that she would be willing to let me use. (something she didn't have to do) Although it was 4am when I got into my room, I clearly remember being struck with the impression that this room was clean and didn't seem to be in any disrepair. (I did look...the only thing I found was a missing light bulb) The bathroom was just as impressive. Mind you, this is not the Ritz, it's EconoLodge. I had very low expectations for this motel and they blew them out of the water. As far as any ill odors, I didn't smell a thing. The thing that prompted me to write this review was based on the fact that when I left the next morning, I left quite a bit of money in the room, on accident (my 5 yr old daughters money!). My mind was on getting home to see how much damage there was from the flood. Monday, I called and inquired about lost and found. This is where I have my only negative remark...this particular clerk was not helpful, nice or even the least bit concerned about helping me track down my daughters money. In fact, she said they didn't have it. I called again Tuesday and asked to speak to the owner. After speaking with this different clerk, who after hearing my story, was very in tune with how i was feeling and assured me that one way or another, i would hear from the owner. Needless to say, 10 minutes later, she calls saying the owner had found the money himself (Because of all the flooding they had been extremley busy and that's why he was helping clean the rooms) and had put it in a safe. Something else they didn't have to do. He could have kept it with no repercussions, I wouldn't have known any different. I can't comment about the food, because I was anxious to get home. I would recommend this motel based soley on the integrity of the owner returning my money and the two positive and helpful clerks that I dealt with.

“A Real Dive”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2008

The first thing to know is that this hotel shares a parking lot with a bar named Brewski's. Loud music, obnoxious drunks. Plan on waking up at bar closing time.

The continental breakfast is a joke. 2 cold cereals, 1 type of stale pastry, white bread and waffles to toast.

Front desk personnel are rude and certainly not enthused about their jobs.

The rooms are old and maintenance has not been a priority. Doors are drafty.

“Not a good place to stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2007

My family stayed there over this past weekend. We had two sets of adjoining rooms. The problem is that only one of the rooms apparently can be cleaned. The adjoining half (in both sets) was not cleaned, there were no clean towels, absolutely nothing was done.
When we complained to the desk clerk, we were told that fresh towels were put out at 8AM. Well, we were still in the room at 8AM and there were no clean towels. When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told he wouldn't be on duty until 8AM the next morning. Then the desk called and said they would be bringing us clean towels. It was after 11PM by this time. No towels arrived.
So a little after 8, one of our party walked down and was told the manager wouldn't be there until 11AM, conveniently right after check-out time. We asked for a discount and were told only the manager could arrange that. So we filled out a complaint form, took the towels that they offered us and vowed to stay somewhere else next year.
