“Greatly Improved! New Owners and Manager I heard.”

I stayed at this hotel in 2006 for the Blueberry festival and it was the worst hotel stay I have ever had in my 46 years or traveling! Holes in the sheats, dirty rooms, bugs in the rooms, rude staff, grounds were not mowed. HOWEVER, this year we were going to stay somewhere else until we saw the sign at the Red Rock said new OWNERS! We drove thru the lot and it was well maintained and the building looked cleaned up. We looked for a place to park and asked to see a room. BIG BIG BIG DIFFERENCE! The staff was nice and well dressed, the rooms were clean and had a good feeling and smell. We stayed 3 days and were very happy this time. GREAT STAY, AND HIGHLY SUGGEST TO OTHERS!!!

“Worst Yet”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2006

After reading the other reviews, especially the one of July 13, 2006, I have decided to write one of my own. A group of us women from Chicago have traveled to Blueberry Fest for over 8 years and have stayed in the same hotel (has changed hands since then). Last year was our worst experience, and I am happy to say that we will not be coming back again. The price is too high (this year $134.00 per night) and the service was terrible. The desk clerk took very long to check us in. I could not believe that we were lied to about the swimming pool last year. We were also told that the filter had just broken down. The pool was one thing we enjoyed about the hotel. We would sit by or in the pool and watch the hot air balloons soar overhead. We also enjoyed the ability to watch the fireworks from the balcony of the hotel.

Last year our rooms were pathetic. One of the rooms had a broken (not burned out) lightbulb in it, which we ended up figuring out how to remove and replace ourselves. In another of the rooms, in order to close the bathroom door, you had to lift up the toilet seat. The rooms weren't clean enough for the price we had to pay.

This year we are traveling a little further and staying in South Bend, paying $149 per night at a great rated hotel, in a room called a penthouse suite that sleeps all 6 of us. It has a fantastic hot breakfast, and a nice outdoor pool. We may have to travel to get to Blueberry Fest, but it will be well worth the drive.

“Call The Health Department!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2006

If you are reading this please beware!! I have never been to such a
disgusting place!! Where to begin...When we entered our first room I
noticed the bed looked like my son made it. Every other hotel has
beds professionally made. I did not feel comfortable with this so I
pulled back the sheets to find a flat sheet half tucked into the bed
(used as a fitted sheet) and better yet, hairs and dirt in the bed!!
I immediately went to call the front desk and of course the phone was
broken. I sent my husband down to find out what to do and in that
tim i found used lotion packages, silly string on the wall and the
last sheet of the hotel note pad with writting on it from the last
guest. They moved us to another room at this point. By then it was
late and my children were falling asleep in our arms. Oh, i forgot
to mention my first clue when I got there... The desk clerk had
hickeys on her neck. At first glance the second room seemed to look
and smell better. Upon closer inspection it was beyond gross also.
There were dead centipedes on the floor, a living centipede that my
husband killed and did not tell me about until later, what I believe
to be a dead bed bug on the floor in the bathroom, and someone else's
hair all over. I checked my sons bed for bugs and found none, but
did find rasinets on the floor next to the bed and cigarette burns on
the comforter and top blanket. I also noticed a vaccum hose has not
touched the carpet near the furniture in what could be months.
Hoping for the best but wondering if we would be better off sleeping
in our van (all the other hotels were booked) I put my daughter to
sleep in her playpen from home and crawled into bed. Already
freaking out about what I went through I started to feel something
crawling up my arm. I jumped up and saw something crawling towards
my husband. I made him get up so I could get it and to my relief it
was not a bed bug, but still a spider. The rest of the night I felt
like I had things crawling all over me and I had to keep checking the
children for fear they were being bit by something. Early morning
came, my son and husband left for a tournament game and I decided to
start a new day and make myself a cup of coffee in my room. Well,if
I wasn't grossed out by all that has happend, I sure was now. I
pulled the coffee pot out to put water in it and found two inches of
mold and coffee in the pot!! That was it!! For a person who does
not like to be seen before a shower I could not even get myself to
take a shower!! I took the coffee pot (I wish I took pictures of it
to show you) up to the front desk and gave them my full complaint.
She looked at me like she could not believe it and told me she just
fired all her maids and got new ones. I told her she needs to fire
her new ones. I requested my money back for all the trouble and was
told, "Sorry no refund policy!!" But I could fill out a complaint
card and she would give it to the manager. I did so and sat down for
my complimentary breakfast. Seeing how the room was, I skipped the
dark green bananas and everything else for packaged muffins hoping
they were safe but having no vehicle at this time to go elsewhere.
As I sit there, here comes the help in there pajamas to fill the
breakfast bar. In the mean time other guests were wanting coffee and
she had to get two more coffee pots out to get one to work. When the
help was making her own breakfast she popped the toaster down and
blew the circuit. Mind you still in her pajamas, this is the time I
find out that most of the help lives in the hotel. NICE!! I also
find out that the owner lives behind the hotel and I did speak to
him. To make a long story short he said there was nothing I could do
about it. We checked out in disgust. After being half way home I
realized I left my earrings on the counter in our hotel room. We
called as soon as we got home after 9pm and was told the room had not
been cleaned yet and to call back in the morning. We called the next
morning after 10:30am and was told the room was not cleaned yet and
to call after 3pm. I called at 4:55pm and was told the desk clerk
went into the room and did not see my earrings. She then said the
maid for today did not see my earrings in the lost and found but the
room was still not cleaned. She said she would ask the made who went
into our room and shut off the lights (who happend to be off today)
if she knows anything but doughted it because they were not
responsible for anything we forget. 4 Days later after the room had still not been cleaned according to the owner, I asked for him to go into the room and look for my earrings again. This time they found them.
Needless to say I went home and fumigated everything!! I will never
go anywhere near that place again!! I still feel like things are
crawling on me. Hope this helps people not to get stuck like I did!!
I have enclosed a picutre of the bug possible bed bug in the
bathroom notice the hair not mine!! I wish I would have taken
pictures of the rest of the stuff. I guess the bug freaked me out
the most!

“disappointed loyal guests”

I travel a great deal and this was the worst service I have ever received. A group of us have stayed at this hotel every Labor Day weekend for twenty years, and although it was never more than a medicare hotel, it has definitely gone downhill in the past year. We are runners and go to Plymouth that weekend to run the race that is associated with the weekend festival. We all take our families and use the weekend as a social weekend, sitting around the pool. Unbeknownst to us, tha pool had been closed most of the summer. (The desk clerk told us it had just closed for the season due to cold weather- it was 85 degrees at the time!- but other employees said it had been closed all summer.) At that point, since all the hotels in the area were booked solid, we had no choice but to stay at Red Rock. Things only got worse. I found a dead bug and a live bug in the bathroom, we had HBO only part of the time, and when we left the room, we had to use all of our strength to slam the door. Otherwise, it would not shut. The worst thing was the smoke detectors- or lack thereof. One member of our group had a detector which didn't work, and I found that the batteries were in backwards. Two other members of the group, found the detector in their room was not connected and could not be connected. They tried two other rooms before finding a detector that was in functioning order. When I tried to talk to the desk clerk our final day, he was very rude and claimed he was not in charge (although the desk clerk the night before claimed otherwise). The desk clerk the final day was also the clerk who told us the pool had just recently closed. Finally, when I asked about their sign stating they guaranteed the lowest rates, he said they only guaranteed matching the rates of one hotel across the street- not to the other four or five in town. I would rate the hotel acroos the street as four star and their rates are much higher, so the guarantee is apparently worthless.

“It was disgusting--bugs and all!”

We stayed here in 2004. I've heard nothing has changed. We wanted a clean glass for the room as the room glass was obviously used, front desk informed us that there was a shortage in the restaurant and therefore no clean glasses were available. Unbelievable! Room had bugs. Made you afraid to fall asleep at night. Door closed with difficulty as it had been forced open at sometime--also had a tendency to keep you awake! Noisy. Staff is beyond indifferent. Sheets made me itch.

If there was a savy hotelier reading this review, let me tell you, you could go into this town, open a hotel and OWN THE TOWN! We travel 250,000 air miles a year. We have seen it all over the years. This place ranks near the bottom--not at the bottom but close! No suggestions of where else to stay though!
