“A good stay for Plymouth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2009

The king size in our room was among the best beds I've slept in; pillows not equal to the task however. Hotel was clean, rooms are nice sized/furniture a bit outdated but not shabby, good-sized bathroom, location close to US 30 and 31. Serve-yourself breakfast is convenient; combination of hot and cold foods with limited choices but more than adequate; juice bar, decent coffee and real half-and-half cream.

We did not encounter the attitude voiced by previous reviewers whatsoever. Check-in was a bit slow but it's a small town and the pace is slower as you might expect. They had no local maps but invited me to use the lobby computer and printer which was efficient.

I was told that that this hotel is scheduled to be totally updated in the next year per headquarters.

“Horrible Customer Service!!! Our reservations just disappeared!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2008

I made reservations in June for the fall Culver Parents Weekend in Oct. (Thurs., Fri. and Sat.). When we arrived they did not have our reservations for Thurs., but they did have them for Fri. and Sat. They found us a room for Thurs., but said that we would have to check out on Fri. morning and check back in on Fri. afternoon. We agreed. When we arrived on Fri. afternoon they didn't have any record of our Fri.-Sat. reservation (I was talking with the same clerk that got us the room on Thurs.). The hotel was completely booked and I was told there was nothing they could do. They did not offer to call other hotels or pay for other accommodations. We had all of the confirmation numbers and they were aware that we had reservations. Somehow our reservations had simply vanished and our room had been given to someone else. There was no explanation of what happened nor an apology. Due to the Culver Parent's Weekend and a Notre Dame football game there were no rooms immediately available anywhere! We ended up having to drive to Warsaw, which was 45 miles away and then drive back and forth to Culver for the weekend.

Our son is a freshman and we had started using this hotel on a regular basis, but we will NEVER go there again! They lost this potentially regular customer for the next four years.

“Management does not care”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2008

Travel agent booked us on the wrong day by mistake, (a week earlier than we had asked for), And when our job was delayed we called to cancell the room. They had already charged a night and refused to give the money back even though we were going to stay later on. They refused to even call me to discuss it. We use the Holiday Inn often and we will never use this one again. They lost a good customer.

“Clean and Quiet and Comfortable, But a Little Hard to Find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2007

I had four map printouts (from various online mapping services) supporting my attempts to locate the Holiday Inn Express in Plymouth, Indiana--and we were considerably off track when we called the hotel, tired and cranky, after midnight. I was delighted that the front desk staff was able to identify my location and provide extremely clear directions, and upon arrival even more delighted to find that our room was perfect for our needs and wishes.

It was nicely (though not luxuriously) furnished, with a properly firm bed, a rocker (not the recliner my spouse had hoped for, but it was okay), a huge spa/whirlpool tub, and a small sink and refrigerator. Everything was exceptionally clean, and we heard no noise from the hall, other rooms, or outside.

Some things were marginal (but about the expected level for this hotel class and rate): towels were on the thin/small side, there were no robe hooks in the bathroom, and the free continental breakfast was nothing special.

Some things were great: the usual Holiday Inn Express showerhead, the spa tub (low and wide and easy to get into), and all of the people employed by the place.

It's not a "destination," but for a stop on the way between Dayton OH and Chicago (note: this hotel is NOT on Highway 31, no matter what any printout says!!), it was perfect.

“Best Place in Town/Superb Management”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2005

The reason for my visit to Plymouth was to attend the Culver Academy graduation. I travel at least 2-3 times per year and DH and I generally stay at a Marriott property. Let me begin by saying Plymouth is a small town relative to South Bend Indiana--so one should not expect the major hotel brands.

Originally I was reserved to stay at the Ramada Inn which was changed to the Red Rock Inn. This was only because the Holiday Inn Express was fully booked. I warn you---stay away from this property. It is a dump. I checked in and was greeted by very friendly and overall professional personnel. But the condition of the rooms is extremely outdated and not sanitary. I received my key and was skeptical at bring my luggage into the room. Not only is the external appearance horrible but the internal rooms are not very pleasant. The bathroom area did not appear to be cleaned thoroughly. I actually found the cleaning lady and asked if by chance the room had not been cleaned. She said if the beds were made and it had a fresh scent it was clean. I said well the beds are made but it does not smell goods. She said well then they forgot to spray. I then asked the front desk to have the room cleaned properly. To my dismay, again the toilet was not cleaned but a new shower mat was put in the tub. I then went to Walmart and got cleaning supplies. After starting to clean and seeing the amount of grime that was on the cloth, I decided this was ridiculous. I checked the Holiday Inn and they had a few rooms open up for one night only. The mgmt indicated they were booked full the next night but hopefully there would be cancellations due to the group booking for the graduation weekend. The Ramada/Red Rock staff were very understanding of my dissatisfaction and checked me out with no charge. Actually they claimed they never had problems with customers complaining about the rooms--I found that hard to believe. But to their credit they were very accommodating. Thank you Corrina!

Now for the Holiday Inn Express -- very very clean; decent linens; decent carpets. The management was absolutely outstanding -- professional, pleasant, went above and beyond the call of duty to make the experience one I'll never forget. The hotel has 3 floors, has a pool and ample parking.
We were always greeted with a pleasant smile and hello upon exiting and entering. We checked several times in the night to see if rooms had opened up for Saturday. They kept promising that they would find something for us by 9am. I confirmed through the 800 reservations line that the hotel was indeed booked. Well by 9am, they called me to tell me they had an opening and I did not even have to switch rooms. They were thorough, hard working and once again provided exceptional customer service. Hats off to you Mr. Atul! The 2 managers are the epitomy of outstanding customer service. As for price, the rate was $120 per night at Holiday Inn and $79 per night at the Ramada/Red Rock. In general, this hotel was not a $120 hotel but given the weekend and location, I suspect the rate was increased--also we booked last minute. It is usually around $95.

As far as the area, there is a variety of food around -- McDonalds, Burger King, Bob Evans, Applebees, Christo's (family restaurant--good breakfast). Walmart and JC Penney are also down the street.

Overall, you are in great hands if you stay at the Plymouth Holiday Inn Express.
