Spent a couple of nights in a business kiing room (#220) at a rate of $86 per night plus tax. Late check in was not a problem, and the guy at the front desk was efficient and friendly. The lobby wasn't very large, but it was clean and modern. Exterior grounds and parking lots were clean and well lighted at night.
Didn't use the pool or spa, so can't comment on those. You should be aware that both are indoors. The good news is that you can use them year round. But the pool isn't that large.
My room was large, clean and well maintained. The Holiday Inn Express design theme features upgraded towels, linens and toiletries. I particularly enjoyed the fluffy towels and the scented soap, which are nice touches at this price point. The bathroom was small, but efficiently designed with one of those curved shower rods that makes the shower seem less narrow. There was also a phone in the bathroom. The sink was outside in the room, near the front door. I prefer more counter space, but most will find it adequate, with good lighting and electrical outlets.
There was a small refrigerator and microwave, both of which were clean and new. There was also a desk, but I didn't bring my laptop so I can't comment about Internet connectivity. Ice and vending was nearby. The TV was new and had an excellent picture. Selection of channels was extensive.
One nitpick I have with Holiday Inn concerns the HVAC. It's a standard window shaker unit, but unlike most units of that type the fan cycles on and off according to a thermostat. So the sound is not constant. Part of the time you hear the fan, which is rather loud. Then it abruptly shuts off and you hear nothing. Until it comes back on again with a roar. Just my opinion, but I find it hard to sleep when the noise level changes randomly and dramatically. YMMV.
Continental breakfast is included, and at this property we had our choice of fresh warm sweet rolls, bagels, English Muffins, cereal, fruit, hard boiled eggs, coffee, juices and milk. The dining room is small, but the full time attendant keeps it spotless and all the food refilled. Very nice as continental breakfasts go.
Finally, this hotel is close to I-70. There is a Wal Mart across the street (with cheap gas) and a commercial strip now far away.
All in all the Holiday Inn Express is nicer than the Best Western down the street. But it's also more expensive. If you don't mind the extra tariff, it's probably the nicest place in town to stay.
