“Poor Value - To Be Avoided”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

Napanee Inn is a half mile from Amish Acres and is afiliated with them. The packages mention the hotel, but no discounts are offered for some weekends. Transportation to Amish Acres is not provided, walking is not a good idea without sidewalks. Check in was smooth, they had the reservation. Apples at the front desk a nice touch. All fees are paid at check-in. Inside hallways are nice. Room lock had been broken, so there were marks on the door where the old one had been pried out and the new one installed. Outside rear doors require a key, but were mostly left ajar. Stairway lights were out in some places, soft drink machine on the floor was broken. Room was clean and neat. Housekeeping was good, except we were short a towel on the second day. Amish design quilts a nice touch and the furniture was solid oak. Non-smoking room smelled like smoke. Hotel says they were recently converted from some smoking rooms. There were instructions in the bathroom for how to clean the rubber bath mat in the tub or extra cleaning charges might apply. Small TV, some cable channels but no HBO. Two double beds in the room, as requested, but you can feel the springs in the mattress. Ask for a room in the back to minimize train noise, which didn't bother us. Cold breakfast served in the morning until 10 (not counting hot instant oatmeal). Breads from the Amish bakery the best part, the rest was basic cold cereal, coffee and juice. Checkout was easy, no waiting. I would look into the local bead and breakfast places first.

“A clean hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2009

I don't know what I expected but this was to me like a Motel 6 except the breakfast was a lot better. It is affiliated with the Amish Acres down the street but is a toned down version of that Inn. It was clean and the staff was very helpful. Check in/out was a breeze. The trains do not bother me because you are basically in the middle of nowhere on a two-lane blacktop road so you cannot expect a Hilton property. One thing I did not like is the fact that they did not have the pool open because of some "red tape". I love the atmosphere and the Amish country. While there we made a day trip up to Shipshewana and that was out of this world. While there you should try the Amish Apple Cidar it is delicious!

“Freight trains = Bad stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

Sorry for this tardy review, but here it is. This property is near (and I believe affiliated with) Amish Acres, a tourist draw in the Amish Country of northern Indiana. The hotel is nice enough, but it is across the street from one of the major east-west freight lines in the U.S. The vibrations from the trains and the train whistles make it impossible to sleep. We ended up canceling the second night of our stay. Unless you already live next to an airport or freight line and noise doesn't bother you, do not stay here.

“Amish simplicity and Earplugs!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2006

I stayed recently at the Nappanee Inn for business for two nights.

Arrived around 10.50 pm and was greeted by 2 college age desk
clerks who "discussed" who would check us in. The one
was worried about getting up to handle this task due to his
not be "on duty" til 11pm.

Rooms are very basic, but clean. Rooms do not have
irons or hair dryers. You can obtain one at the front desk.

Free muffins and coffee are served in the lobby area
each am .

The major drawback to this quite Amish INN which is located
in the middle of horse and buggy country, is that freight trains
run all night and the noise from the whistles and vibrations
are insane! They supply disposable earplugs to lessen the noise.
This area is beautiful in landscape and simplicity, however
you can find the same without the train noise with a little
research.
