There were both positive and negative aspects to our stay at Shady Cove Cabins. There are six cabins situated close together on a little inlet off off Lake Shafer. The owner's home sits about 20 steps away across the road.
The positive:
The cabin we stayed in was very clean and in good shape. I didn't have a problem walking around without my shoes on, etc. There is a decent sized living area with a foldout futon, a tv with cable (but no dvd player) and a kitchenette area. The bathroom was in good shaped with what appeared to be new tiling in the shower.
The cabin is in a good location--the lake is right off the front porch basically. The amusement park, etc., is just a few minutes away.
If you do go to Indiana Beach, make sure you get the discount coupons from the cabin owners. It's a big savings.
Every night the owner lights a nice bonfire.
Parking was never a problem--there is plenty of space.
The negative:
There wasn't a lot of privacy. There are six cabins sharing just two short deck/piers. Therefore, if any of the cabins happen to have children who are swimming--there's no way you could go fishing. Even if just a few people are out by the water, it seems crowded. We came to fish but ended up only putting a line in the water for 10 minutes the whole stay--and even then, a man ran down the dock and jumped into the lake. So if you're looking to spend a lot of time on the water--I'm not sure this will be the place for you.
The shower ran out of hot water once when two showers were taken right after one another.
There is supposed to be wireless Internet, but the signal was very sporadic and we were only able to use it for maybe 30 seconds at a time here and there.
The kitchen area is very small and not very conducive to cooking. There is no oven/stove. The fridge is just a small dorm fridge meaning there really isn't a freezer. The dishes leave much to be desired--only four small bowls, four plates, and a random sampling of miss matched silverware that wasn't in good shape. I wouldn't plan on cooking any elaborate meals here by any means.
So...if you're looking for a decent priced place to stay that is close to Indiana Beach, these cabins are probably fine. But if you are looking to spend time fishing or swimming, or want any sort of a romantic getaway, this probably isn't the place for you.
