“Fantastic Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

In March of 2009 I was embarking on a new business venture were I am the boss, and this particular project required an on location shoot. Already being nervous for the success of the project itself, I was stressing over the accommodations (everything = my responsibility) for my crew, and being a total novice to traveling didn’t exactly help the situation.

After checking out tons of hotels for the best possible deal I finally decided on the Hampton Inn South Bend/Mishawaka and I am so glad I did! By the time we got to the hotel we had been traveling for 6 hours and had been to the location to finalize details for the next day, so needless to say we were ZONKED when checking in and the staff seemed to have read our minds (or possibly our faces – it’s a toss up as to which) they treated us fabulously!! Starting by asking if they could assist us with anything, restaurant suggestions, info on the area, directions, reservations, etc. (the latter so not in their job descriptions I’m sure).

The lobby was nicely decorated, very warm and inviting. As we approached the elevator I became a bit skeptical as the hallway gave the impression of an older building and the same for the elevator, but my fears quickly diminished when I walked into the room. Nice furnishings (nothing fancy mind you, but very well maintained) and extremely clean! There are several other hotels neighboring The Hampton, and it is located in a bit of a commercial area (strip malls close by) so I was pleasantly surprised at how peaceful it was at night. The beds were super comfy!

Housekeeping honored our all of our requests in a timely fashion and as we were checking out (which was before the butt crack of dawn), the overnight clerk thought we might like some breakfast and handed us a breakfast sack!

If I’m ever in Indiana again, no question as to where I’m staying.

“Not great”

We were there for a Notre Dame football weekend, so the price of about $370 including tax was not unexpected. However, it is definitely not worth it. The room was just ok in terms of decor, not as nice as the last two Hampton Inns I stayed at in August. I do think it was one of the dirtier hotels that I have stayed at and that is why I would probably not stay there again unless I had no other choice.

“Always had a good experience”

I've stayed at this Hampton at least 10 times over the past five years. I have always had a good stay. The staff has always been very friendly, helpful, and attentive. Rooms have always been up to the Hampton standard. Only drawback is that the breakfast room is often crowded.

“Never Again”

I travel weekly for work. I normally stay at Hampton Inns. I stayed at this Hampton on 10/3/07, it was under constuction. That was not the problem I've stayed at other hotels being remodeled. When I checked into my room the door was open. So I put my bag in front of the door so it wouldn't close and made sure no one was in the room. When I went into the room, I always check under the blankets for hair and the bathroom to make sure it's clean. I was in a room with two double beds. The bed on the right had hair in it when I pulled the sheets back, and I'm not talking about hair from your head. The bathroom counter looked as though a child cleaned it, it was sticky and you could see the streaks on the counter, the coffee pot looked nasty, the bathtub looked to be okay. Needless to say I will not be staying at this hotel again. The Holiday Inn across the street is better than this hotel. Just the atmosphere in the hotel when I walked into the lobby felt dirty (I should of known right then), but after checking my room I knew I couldn't stay there and wouldn't ever go back.

“I'll get right to the cons”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2007

This was the dirtiest Hampton I have ever stayed in. My family has been staying at Hampton Inns for years specifically because of the vow of cleanliness they boast. Unfortunately, this hotel gives the Hampton Inn brand a very bad name. Halls were dirty and smelled like cigarette smoke, floors were dirty and gross, walls and bathrooms were in need of a good cleaning as well. The indoor pool is a joke. You can't even hardly breathe because the room is sooooooo small and the chemicals are soooooo strong. The echoing and lack of ventillation in this little box of a room was very unnerving (even for the kids). It was fine that the entrance door was not a sliding door, but the fact that it was a single door was also aggravating trying to carry in the luggage. I did give it a two only because the staff was pleasant enough and the kids enjoyed the evening snacks they offered.
