“Sleep in your car”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2007

Booked room for Nov 2nd for Notre Dame game on Nov 3rd. Was sent down to Studio Plus a few blocks from Extended Stay. Dirty, dirty, dirty..
.......Small, small, small.......no operating elevator, but of course room was on 3rd floor. Oh did i mention they were under renovations at
the time, and Extended Stay only uses property for the over flow of game weekends. once again dirty, dirty, dirty......

“No problems at the Extended Stay America”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2007

I had very low expectations of this hotel after reading the other 3 reviews however I was pleasantly surprised. Everything seemed clean and relatively modern. It was a non Notre Game weekend so it was very quiet.

For my money I got an apartment sized fridge, microwave, coffee pot (3 cup), toaster, 2 burner stove, ironing board, iron, double (maybe queen) bed, chair and TV. Everything worked. All was pretty clean. I brought my own sheet and pillow due to the reviews and was glad I did
but theirs, while cheap, looked clean.

There is nothing in the bathroom but a rug, towels and soap, no toiletries. The refrigerator hummed loudly through the night but I sleep pretty soundly and it was only annoying when I woke up.

There is a Starbucks and Chinese restaurant across the parking lot, both of which I recommend and plenty of places to shop both on that street and one street west "Grape".

The highway entrance is not nearby but you can get there easily.

  • Liked — Price and cleanliness and having a kitchen
  • Disliked — The refrigerator hummed loudly at night and there was a parking lot light shining in my window.

“Very, very disappointing”

First of all, you have to understand that I have stayed in Mishawaka 4-5 times in the past by using priceline and getting the Springhill Suites -- which is a great hotel-- for less than $50 a night. So, when priceline booked us at the Extended Stay America, I was disappointed, but figured it would also be nice.

It wasn't, for several reasons:

1. The room- When you say "extended stay", I think of a room with a bed, and a separate room with a couch and tv, in other words, a sleep area and a work/relaxation area. This hotel does not provide that. There's a bed with a tv, a small desk next to the bed, a small table to eat at and that's it.

2. The kitchen- We tried to use the kitchen to cook, but the pots and pans provided very bad, and there were no cleaning supplies. And the kitchen is so close to the bed that when you do go to sleep, it's like sleeping in your kitchen.

3. Maid service- This hotel only uses maid service once a week. So if you check in on Friday for a weekend stay, no one makes up your bed on Saturday. That's not a major thing, but have you ever had that experience at a hotel? Isn't that part of the "hotel experience"? It just seems like a cost-cutting measure that screams "one-star hotel".

4. Internet- The hotel provides wireless computer access for an additional fee, but I couldn't get it to work.

5. The pool and workout room- Non-existant. There's no pool and if you want to work out, you have to go down the road to use a "sister company's" exercise room, which isn't bad, but a little inconvenient.

The bottom line is that I'd hate to spend an extended period of time in this hotel and a weekend seemed too long. How priceline can rate this hotel and the Springhill Suites the same-- two stars-- is completely baffling.

“Neither good nor bad.”

We stayed here for a Notre Dame football weekend and liked the proximity to campus (less than five minutes away), the relatively cleanliness of the rooms, the ample parking, etc. You could do a lot worse when scrambling for a hotel on a football weekend.

However, the hotel is a bit odd. It's in the general vicinity of other new hotels in the Grape Road/University Mall area, but it's kind of down the street and orphaned from the others. The lobby is tiny and nobody is on duty late at night. Because it's an extended stay hotel, there are mailboxes in the lobby and you get the sense that weekend visitors are the exception. The hotel seems both new and old at the same time - the general look of it is new but the layout, elevator, interior walls, etc. suggest the hotel is decades older.

Rooms were spacious and included a refrigerator, sink and cooking area. There was no smoke odor and everything seemed clean. Reasonably comfortable bed, cable t.v., no problems with noise. The bathroom was sparse though - no amenities.

Overall a somewhat odd place but light years better than the Knights Inn and other dreg hotels you sometimes get stuck with on football weekends.

“Not too bad, but needs a little work”

We stayed in this hotel for a ND football weekend. We got a smoking room, but there was no cigarette/cigar odor. The room was clean, although the dishes, glassware and utensils that were included had a few cracks in them and could have used a good washing.

Beds were not made and room was not cleaned after our first night. Where were the housekeepers? There was also a smell of rotting fish in the tiny lobby, but it soon dissipated. There was ample parking and the hotel is close to the Notre Dame campus and the many stores and restaurants in Mishawaka. I got a good deal on the room for the weekend, but now the hotel is charging an immoral $300+ per night for a football weekend.
