“Big suites, decent quality.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

Shared a two-bedroom suite with another couple. Was pleasantly surprised to find that each bedroom had its own dedicated full bath, which was really nice. Rooms were mostly clean, but smelled of disinfectant (like a nursing home) when we first checked in. Some of the interior areas could use some renovation or redecorating. Huge breakfast selection, including several hot items (eggs, sausage, waffles). Had noisy neighbors upstairs, but when we mentioned this to the desk clerk on our way out she was nice enough to give us a discount for the inconvenience.

“I'd do it again at Residence Inn Merrillville!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

What an all around great hotel here in merrillville. Off the main drag, but still within walking distance to great restaurants, pubs, malls, stores, theatres, gas and convenience. More than adequate parking, friendly staff, clean hotel, great BBQ patio and mgr's social. another 'feels like home' hotel.
Always there to try to meet your needs, great breakfasts and social hour with Free food and Beer/Wine 4 days a week. The time here went too fast because we enjoyed our stay very much at this Residence Inn.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, the internet was good, the staff was great along with the housekeeping and maintenance.
Rental car nearby with pick up and delivery.
I'd definitely do it again at the Residence Inn Merrillville!

Thank you for your fantastic review. We try very hard to take care of our wonderful guests. I am glad you felt the internet connection was good because today we just added another connection and doubled our capacity.

“Nice enough, good value, proper 1 BR Suite.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

This was a little bit older property, but generally clean and well maintained. Front desk was very pleasant and helpful. We had a genuine one BR suite with a separate living area, which was important since we were traveling with our 16 year old daughter. This was not the case when we booked the same room type at three other (of many) hotels on a long three week road trip. It is not to be taken for granted that you will actually have a two room suite. Overall a solid choice to stay here.

“Highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2011

We had booked a room at the Radisson, across the parking lot. At the time we made the reservation, they told us they accept dogs. When we arrived to check in, we were told they DO NOT accept dogs. It was raining buckets out and we weren't looking forward to searching for another place to stay. The desk clerk got on the phone and found a studio for us at the Residence Inn. Except for charging us $100 for the dog (in cash) for our one night stay, I'd have to give this hotel high ratings. I got the sofa bed and I would never have known it was one if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes - it was as comfortable as any bed. Everything was nice and clean. Plus, it was cheaper than the Radisson!

“Worst Residence Inn ever”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

I stayed here for two nights this week, while waiting for my apartment to be completed. I am staying in the area for a year for work. I am a gold member with Marriott and I have almost 30 hotel stays already this year. This is the worst experience at a Marriott in quite some time. The whole hotel is in serious need of updating as another traveler mentioned. The first thing that surprised me was when I saw dogs staying in the property...I didn't realize that they allowed small dogs. The front desk service was adequate at best, they seemed bothered when I went to purchase water form the market, as if I was bothering them from whatever they were doing. One of the male front desk employees was folding towels behind him...not very sanitary. The room was awful, the furniture and bed were ok but the room had a weird odor like burnt popcorn, the kitchen and bathroom were extremely outdated and the wood floor was coming up in places in the kitchen. With the amount of business I give Marriott for both business and leisure I was surprised that this was the best room they could offer me. A dog next door kept me up all night yapping and the walls are paper thin, horrible nights sleep. The fitness center is the size of a bathroom and was adjacent to the swimming pool and it felt like 100 degrees as there was no air. It served its purpose, I guess. The one highlight was the breakfast, great selection and choices and was of good quality. The employee in the breakfast area, was very nice. I normally give great reviews on Marriott but I will NOT be staying here again. The hotel is also difficult to reach as it is behind several other buildings and surrounded by many one way roads.
