When I arrived at the Candlewood Suites, I had no idea what I was in for. When I got to our room, I was shocked beyond belief; the room was clean, and it had things in it that I had never experienced before. Namely, cooktop, kitchen cabinets, dishwasher, full size frig, sink, flat screen TV, table that could be used to eat a meal on, or take care of business papers, and the beds were queen sized. I was so happy to stay there, and I will stay there again whenever I'm visiting Chicago.

This hotel provides everything that you would expect from an extended day place. It is also fairly new so everything works as it should and is quite clean. What I did not like about it are just 2 design issues: The bed is almost flush with the wall on one side (I believe a person commented on this already). This made it very difficult to get out of the bed from that side. Obviously, if you are alone this will not be a problem. Also the adjustable height desk chair was too low for the desk, which made me sit either low or lower to work on my laptop. Quite a bit annoying and uncomfortable. Somewhat surprising too that they did not serve breakfast although there was free coffee in the room.

We had reserved a non=smoking room, but got a smoking room. The bed was within 6 inches of the HVAC and continually blew on us. We ended up sleeping 3 in the other bed to avoid the blowing. the room appliances did not working. Lastly, the parking lot was closed for 2 days for paving, which required us to parking in a muddy adjoining lot. Nothing like tromping through the pooring rain and mud with luggage in hand.

Hotel staff didn't seem to be concerned.

Pros: Free coffee.

Cons: No breakfast. In our double room, beds were against both walls. Difficult for the 'outside' person to get out of bed unless they climb over the other person. Room darkening shades were two inches too short, so sunlight streamed in. Automatic sensors shut of your room air conditioner when you leave so you come back to a warm stuffy room. Deadbolt on our door did not line up with the slot, so it would not lock. (Don't they check these things?) When we checked in the desk attendant was engrossed in watching a very graphic movie on the big screen tv in the lobby -- not what I wanted my two young boys to see...

I don't plan to stay here again.
