“B&B from 1833”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

My wife and I passed through the picturesque town of Madison last weekend and were able to stay at the Azalea Manor. The house was built in 1833 and has a very nice parlor and dining room, attractive staircase, and about 4 bedrooms. The owner, Shirley, was friendly, knowledgable, and eager to help. She had plenty of brochures and restaurant tips, and gave us good ideas on what would be worth doing in this small rivertown.

Our room was comfortable and the breakfasts were good. My wife especially enjoyed the lounging chair next to the bed, while I grabbed some sun in the upstairs "library" (really just the landing, wide enough for a book case and a couple of comfy chairs). One suggestion I'd make would be to have a pot of decaf brewing (my wife doesn't do regular coffee).

We'll recommend the Azalea Manor and can see ourselves going back again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Classical room, which was nice but overlooked the street. The Victorian room, one...

“Really weird....will not stay again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

My mom and I are vegan so I knew that would be a challenge since this is a B&B. We gave her plenty of notice about our dietary restrictions but when we got there, she showed us the instant oatmeal she got for us for breakfast. (Part of staying at a B&B is getting the included breakfast and I was really shocked that she just bought us instant oatmeal.) She had some snacks for the other guests but of course nothing that my mother and I could eat. Our room had a King and a single in it, but the room was so packed with decoration that it was hard for the 2 of us to move around. Our room had a door that adjoined to the next room. Through this door, we could hear EVERY WORD that the other guests were uttering (well into the night). One of our next door neighbors took a bath and you could actually hear her moving around in the tub and the water splashing. It was very weird. We stayed in September, but Shirley (the owner) obviously didn't have the heat on and we could barely sleep that night because we were FREEZING!! We paid for 2 nights but left after the 1st night. I wouldn't recommend this place, however it was very clean. I guess B&B's just aren't my thing.....

“Fantastic Bed and Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

We just returned from our trip to the Azalea Manor. It was beautiful, clean and the host, Shirley, is fabulous and friendly. You won't go wrong when you book this home for your stay. Already made reservations for our next trip too! The food is very tasty and more than an ample serving for each. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the upstairs veranda is to die for!

“Fantastic!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in June. The house was unbelievably clean and beautifully decorated! Shirley, our hostess, did much of the work herself and is deservedly proud. The breakfasts were huge and delicious. We stayed in the Victorian room and really loved having our private space on the veranda.

“Wonderful home in the heart of Madison; we were made to feel welcome!”

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home even though it rained for the three days that we were visiting Madison. The hard work and attention to detail is evident in every corner of this magnificent manor! The delicious food (more than we could eat), the beautiful decor, the antiques, the gardens, the wonderful porches, the innkeepers (great conversations and hospitality), all were perfect! We are looking forward to a return trip later this year - and hopefully it will not rain, so we can enjoy the upstairs covered porch!

Room Tip: Choose the downstairs room for less steps
