We traveled to LaPorte for a wedding and reception and checked in early to get ourselves situated for the big event. I did notice little thing with the housekeeping that should have been warning sign. The rooms seemed dark and uninviting. I noticed cobb webs in the corners, the carpet seemed "squishy" like they dumped soap on the carpet with no water and it dried. My fiance was turning her side of the bed down when she noticed a couple of bugs running. She called me into the room and I was able to catch one and bring it into the bathroom where the lighting was better. This was defiantly bed bugs, my fiance works for the Health Department and knew what they were when she had a better look. We instantly packed and I went to the office to talk to the manager. The night manager advised me to call the day manager in the morning for a refund. I called in the morning and the manager instantly offered a refund, almost like he knew about the issue with bed bugs. I waited for four days with no sign of the refund on my card so I called the corporate office and the rep there acted like i was an idiot for taking the issue that far. I than called the LaPorte Health Department to file a complaint and they knew about the bed bugs??? I was shocked on why they are still operating with the infestation. I was told since the bugs are not spreading and diseases they are limited on their actions. Last time i checked operating in filth is unexceptionable. Places that serve food are subject to closing the doors until they correct the issues so why cant places you sleep? Maybe I am being too critical but if bed bugs are present this is due to a unsanitary environment and I will not subject my family to this. I do not look different at the city of LaPorte but I am looking at Super 8 Motels in a different light.

We unfortunately didn't read the reviews before booking and my daughter ended up w/ 92 bedbug bites that itched like crazy for several days. We actually went to urgent care the next town we stayed over in because she was so uncomfortable. Have talked to Super 8 corporate who refunded the room, but the manager refuses to follow-up.

I brought a group of 16 high school age students, along with seven parents and myself to the Super 8 in Laporte, IN on March 26th, 2010. We were in town for the Midwest Color Guard Circuit Championships that weekend. We arrived Friday night around 10pm, and two rooms were found to have bedbugs. The front desk people said "we had tree service people staying in these rooms and that must be why there's bugs". The guests of the two rooms were moved, however the next morning, five more rooms found bedbugs. SEVEN out of our NINE rooms were found to be infested with bedbugs. It was so bad that the people in my group were catching bedbugs in the hotel-provided cups and taking the evidence to the front desk to show the manager/owner the PROOF. Extremely inconveniently, we were forced to check out and find a new hotel. The saddest part of the entire situation is that we checked out Saturday morning, and the hotel parking lot was PACKED that very night. This leads me to believe that the hotel manager/owner did not care at all that he had bug infested rooms he was renting out to unsuspecting customers. I'm just glad I didn't have my three-year-old with me in that nasty hotel. I'm also guessing if seven out of OUR nine rooms were infested with bedbugs, there is probably a plethora of rooms also infested with bedbugs in which we were not aware. DO NOT STAY HERE. IF YOU DO YOU WILL GO HOME TO FIND BEDBUGS IN YOUR PURSE and spend an entire day doing multiple loads of laundry to wash every article of clothing you brought with you, and buying special spray to spray down all belongings you CANNOT put into the washing machine, to try and ensure yourself that you're NOT bringing bedbugs into your OWN home...all because the manager/owner of the Super 8 in Laporte, IN is so negligent that he let unsuspecting patrons SLEEP in bug infested rooms. Don't give this hotel your time or money. You may get more than what you bargain for - such as an infestation of bedbugs.

I must admit I was expecting a shabby room. The website said the rooms were renovated as of 06 but I thought nah. But at $59 for new years eve it was a great deal. And as stated the rooms were remodeled good furniture clean rooms. Although the rooms smelled like a ben-gay factory for seniors and the bed was sooooooo comfortable warm and cozy. All and all a good stay would highly recommend.
