I knew it was going to be bad staying here before we even got here. Pretty much had no choice but to stay in this so called motel. It was homecoming weekend for Purdue so most hotels were sold out well in advance. We unfortunately booked this dump about 2 weeks before our stay for the price gouged rate of $99 through hotels.com! A rip off at best. This is probably a $40 room in the weekdays. We booked a king size bed with hotels.com over the phone (talking to someone clearly outsourced in India) and they failed to mention that the room type and rate was base on availability only. I know the website has that in the fine print when you order online, but my wife did this one over the phone and isn't too familiar with booking hotels. When we were given our dinghy room, we were upset to find a single small double bed room. I called to complain asking for a larger room and the front desk lady informed me it was booked on hotels.com and was based on availability. I understood this and knew there was nothing more that would be done. However, my wife called back to ask more questions since she was confused and initially made the reservation. The front desk lady was rude and obnoxious to my wife and threatened to kick us out of the hotel while they were having their little quarrel and then hung up on my wife. Classy customer service for a classy place. Motel 8 and hotels.com will be informed of this.
Those problems aside, the place really is pretty crappy. Its one of those classic outdoor access only two story motels that you see in the seedy parts of town. Very old and need of major updates to the outside of building along with the rooms. Our room smelled terrible. It was a cross between stale smoke, dirty carpet and perhaps mold. The room size was acceptable, probably since there was only a small double bed. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The shower could use some cleaning along the top of the shower wall, lots of dust and drywall crumbles. Shower head could be cleaned better. Hot water ran out on me after my wife took a shower. I thought hotels and motels had an almost endless supply of hot water. Not here though. Room's overall cleanliness was not as bad as it potentially could have been. But the room could use some fresh paint and new carpet to get the smells out and make it look more presentable. The room was also loud, especially in the morning.
Don't stay here if you can avoid it. Certainly don't stay if you have to pay the price gouge rates. One plus is across the way at the Best Western, there is a great bar in the restaurant called Hour Time. Its a nice wooden basement bar with friendly service, reasonable prices and even had my favorite Talisker Scotch which is sometimes hard to find at any bar let alone some Best Western in the middle of Indiana.
Location wise, the Super 8 is right off I-65 at US 26, easy to get on and off the interstate. Purdue's campus area is about a 10 minute drive. The motel area has plenty of OTHER hotels and restaurants.
