“History Buffs Will Love This”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

After reading all the "negative reviews", the objective of this hotel was to maintain the history of an era of train travel. From the moment you enter the hotel, you see statues of individuals who frequented Union Station during their hey day. Yes, the rooms could be considered small, but patrons need to keep in mind the historical value of the structure. We stayed in one of the railroad cars that has been transformed into a hotel room. It was unique. Of course, the room is smaller because ... ah... it IS a train car! But it was a unique and fun. The hotel is within walking distance of shopping and restaurants so it makes for a pleasant weekend. The main ballroom was a setting for a wedding we attended and it was awesome! Elegant, beautiful, and so full of historical ambiance you don't see much anymore. If you want a "Crowne Plaza Ordinary Experience", go elsewhere. For those of us who are seasoned travelers and want something extra... this is the hotel. Try walking around the entire structure and viewing the individual train stops. We loved it. And will come back each year for an overnight visit.

Room Tip: Book the train cars - Charlie Chaplin for one... it's fun--something unique and unusual!

“Average at best”

We stayed for two nights due to our sons hockey tournament downtown. I was not surprised by the price for the room but I thought it would have a bit more. It's was a basic holiday inn size double bedroom but with no microwave or mini-fridge. When we arrived a hose was laying in the bathroom with a bunch of dirt laying in the bathtub. We had to take our truck and tried to parkin the underground structure. Well the truck wouldn't fit so I had to valet my truck wich wa 27 per day, ok no big deal right? Except that the valet was parking on the street right in front of the hotel. If you're going to pay for valet it should be a covered area after all it's 27 per day. We were given two passes for breakfast which was a bummer but what really pissed me off was that we had to pay a extra 14 dollars for the kids to eat at a very minimal breakfast. Just to let you know any juice is not included in your free breakfast which included under cooked scrambled eggs, french toast, grits, biscuits and gravy, small danishs, cartons of milk you can get at school for lunch, muffins and bagels, that's it. Ohh wait the milk was for the small selection of cereal. The trains weren't that bad at first, but the second night we woke up at 1200 am to what sounded like a train de-railing for about 10 mins. If you stay on the north side of the hotel you should be ok though.

Room Tip: Go some where else.

“Very nice hotel - Great Service - across the street from Lucas Oil Stadium”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

we were greeted at the hotel by a very helpful gentlemen who helped us with our luggage and into the hotel. The front desk staff was very informative and the hotel itself is very tastefully decorated. The train cars that you rent are really cool! Great for Kids!

The best part about this hotel was that it was across the road from Lucas Oil and you can actually walk through the Convention center and never go outside.

The restaurant had really good breakfast as well!

Overall great experience. EXCELLENT location!! Very creative hotel, built around train theme and station.

Room Tip: Seek rooms in the themed location. Rooms are modeled after a train cart :)

“Unique, antique, and utterly charming...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I booked this property for the weekend as a surprise Christmas gift for my train-loving husband. If a man can be "tickled pink", he was! I had reserved a train car room, of course, and requested the Charlie Chaplin Room at check-in. I just love the decor of this room. Our king bed had the softest of linens-so comfy. Our mattress was equally soft-not so comfy for my back. . and the fiberfill pillows had quite a bit of "bounce" to them, which I didn't care for at all. (I should know by now to take my down pillows from home.) The hotel is huge, and we explored from one end of the other-top to bottom. It's quite wonderful to see. The carpet in the lobby is really cool and colorful, but the furnishings are a bit dated and worn. They could definitely use some new chairs,or at least reupholster the ones they have.

Valet parking was $27 per night, but I now know that if you're travelling on a weekend you can park on the street (just a few steps from the valet area) for free, but I imagine you need to get there early.

We didn't use the pool, hot tub, or restaurant/bar, so I can't comment about those. Someone commented in a previous review that they received two free drink coupons for each night of their stay but we didn't get those so I don't think it's something to count on. Would have been nice, though.

I would definitely like to return, maybe in a bit warmer weather. Downtown Indy has a lot to offer. I think I want the John Phillip Sousa room next time...

Room Tip: I would definitely get a train car room, just for the experience. How often do you get the opportun...
