“Downtown Indy Acceptable Option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Indianapolis hosts lots of big events, Superbowl XLVI notwithstanding, and they do a great job at it. If you're in town for an event, downtown is the place to be--pay the premium vs. suburban budget chains. Downtown is easy to negotiate, just park your car, and walk everywhere to dining and entertainment. Downtown hotels that are connected to the Circle Center are preferable for convenience, I think there are seven (?), and Embassy Suites (ES) is one of them. In your hotel search, if ES is available, don’t hesitate to book it. Any flaws will be overshadowed by the preferable location. If other hotels linked or adjacent to Circle Center are available and are rate competitive, give them a close look, but if they are booked or pricier, ES will be fine. Very predictable for a first generation downtown Embassy Suites. Based on reviews, I suspect some rooms are renovated, but not all. Ours wasn't, but it was well maintained, if not a bit dated. They do a good job at handling the masses when the hotel is booked at the manager's reception and the breakfast, not always the case at some Embassy Suites.

“Great hotel at fair price.”

Staid here nearly 10yrs ago for IU basketball tournament downtown when Circle Center Mall was first built. Was a wonderful hotel then and still is today. You could tell that the room had been recently updated (Thank you Superbowl). I can't say enough for how easy it is to get around the city of Indianapolis without using your car. We were just a short walk away from the mall and never had to step foot outside. We went to Colts Texans game and were just a short, safe walk from the stadium. The staff was fantastic. All we encountered were polite and helpful. Didn't have time to visit pool or gym with all of the Christmas shopping we had to do. Breakfast was great. Had buffet and made to order omelet. My only ding would be the parking situation. The parking garage is tight and not exclusive to hotel. There are many that park there for the IRT and the Mall. All of this to be expected in its downtown location. Would most certainly stay in this top notch hotel again the next time I am downtown for ballgame, concert, play, or shopping.

“Above and Beyond”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I stayed here on Dec.20, 2011 and they went above and beyond to meet our needs. I prebooked a corner king suite for one night. I called the day of to confirm the suite since I have had issues with them in the past. Once again, I ran into the same issue of them upgrading a previous guest. When the gentleman explained they had overbooked the corner king I explained to him that I had already prepaid and it was a special occassion ( sister graduating from college). He came back shortly after, apologized once again, and explained that he had upgraded us to a Penthouse Suite free of charge. I was very pleased. They went on to impress us when we arrived with a bottle of champagne, Godiva Chocolates, and a card to congratulate my sister for graduating college. This would be easily 5 stars, however the fact they overbooked in the first place on a prepaid room I still do not understand and the breakfast was very weak.

Thanks for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback. We are very pleased to see that you had a pleasant experience with the upgrade to our penthouse suite along with the unexpected delivery of chocolates and champagne. You make a great point that the suite you reserved should always be the one that you get upon check in. I will take the necessary steps to ensure that it is not an issue for future visits.

Again, our team thanks you for your kind words and patronage.

Warm regards,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your stay with us. We are obviously very disappointed to read of the issues you encountered with your linen and the lack of response from the person that you spoke to about this issue. I assure you that neither of these issues are a reflection of how we take care of our valued guests and I am going to investigate immediately. I would like to invite you back to our hotel to make up for this visit. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

“Very disappointed - would not stay again”

We were at this hotel for a family function. Our first room had stains and tears in the carpet, nicks on the tables, tears in very worn furniture, and the water in the kitchen was cloudy. We were moved to another room which was a bit better, but still had a big tear on the carpet and on the couch cushions. It looked like a "spring break" hotel rather than the quality I have experienced at ES. The escalator did not operate our entire stay and there was not a sign directing guests for alternative means of navigating a 20-floor hotel. The complaints about the heating/air are correct. One member of our party had to get another room because it was too warm. He was moved to a corner room so there were more windows to open. I had never heard of a hotel that limited heating and cooling ability, especially with Indianapolis weather unpredictable. A church convention made the experience unpleasant as the kids were running and screaming down the halls until 1 a.m. the first night. Three security officers patrolled the hotel the next night; I felt the hotel should have handled this earlier. The staffing was minimal with this large event in the city and I can't imagine staying here during the Super Bowl. This hotel needs to be razed as it is in disrepair and several employees said they cannot make a change to the HVAC system. It was a poor excuse for an Embassy Suites, especially in such a great downtown location. The renovated rooms were still disappointing. On the bright side, the employees were helpful and friendly, but they had to spend a lot of time trying to solve problems beyond their control.
