“Nice Weekend Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2009

We got a good deal on the Wedgewood Suite for a weekend away- 2 nights for the price of one.

The room: Perfect. Very spacious with a large comfy bed, huge bathroom suite. We loved the whirlpool tub that even had a separate faucet where you could wash your hair and face while sitting in a warm bubble bath. The recliner nearby was a great place to hang out and chat or read while the other person was in the tub.

The breakfast: A yummy souffle one morning, and pumpkin bread left by the door the next.

The house: Very nice! Unique. We loved the rooftop deck, but did not get to experience the hot-tub as I am currently preggo. Housemates staying the same weekend seemed to be enjoying themselves quite a bit. We'll have to make plans to come back sometime when I don't have a bun in the oven to party ourselves.

The Service/hospitality: The owner was away during our weekend and another lady (only met her at breakfast and don't think I got her name) was pretty non-obtrusive, which was nice.

The details: If I were paying the full rate for our room both nights (which we weren't this trip), there are a few extra details that would have made the overall trip ($500 for a weekend) a better value: 1) room details- bottled water in the room or a water dispenser would be nice, especially for making coffee- the hard water made the coffee funky. A one-cup maker with pods would have been great- you can get a nice one for not a lot of money. Chocolates would also be nice. 2) Full, cooked breakfast for both mornings, and the option of having the cooked meal brought to your room to enjoy at the table there would also have been a nice touch.

Overall, a really good weekend and we would definitely stay again! Just a few details could definitely up the value factor for rates paid.

“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2009

My wife and I have stayed all over the world but rarely do you get an experience as unique as that at the Yellow Rose Inn. We were only staying one night as we were heading down to the Kentucky Derby afterwards but we had an amazing time at the Yellow Rose. The owner, Betty, was so incredibly welcoming and greeted us like long lost friends after our tiring journey from London. The house is truly beautiful - elegant, antique-filled, and with a real sense of history. But it's also warm and relaxed. As we were the only guests Betty said that we could choose any room and so we stayed in the stunning Wedgewood room with its enormous whirlpool bathroom and 4 poster bed. The fact that we were the only guests and Betty lives in a separate place behind the house means we basically had the run of the house meaning it felt like our private palace. Incredible. In the evening we were tired but Betty had recommended the St Elmo Steak House so we got a cab over there. We weren't disappointed - gorgeous, old fashioned restaurant serving great steaks and with a buzzy atmosphere. Pricey, but worth it.

The next morning the wonderful Betty greeted us with a mouthwatering breakfast of omelettes, potatoes, cakes - everything you could possibly want and more. She was very sweet and chatted to us, very helpfully telling us about Indianapolis and the surrounding area.

Basically if you're in Indianapolis and want to stay very near the centre of town but also somewhere very, very special don't even contemplate staying anywhere other than the Yellow Rose Inn. I was gutted to leave after only one night, we would loved to have had longer.

“Great Place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2008

My wife and I were looking to get away for our anniversary for a couple of days and I found this by Googling: Indianapolis hot tub bed and breakfast.

It was a perfect place. The home is loaded with antiques and gorgeous. It is also very close to downtown. There is a rooftop hot tub which is a very nice touch.

Our room had a pool table, a full kitchen, a very nice 2 person jacuzzi tub, and a massage table. The proprietor, Betty, also arranged for a masseuse for my wife and I. Although, the massage table did have a book on how to give massages if you prefer to do that yourself.

Alas, the cd player in our room did not work, but that's okay. The DVD player worked and in our downtime, we watched a few episodes of Deadwood to bide our time. (Our room had the complete first season with some assorted other movies next to the machine).

What makes any business, though, is the people or person behind it. Betty Davis, the proprietor is absolutely amazing. I can't say enough what a generous, charming, and gracious hostess she is. She also has a very sweet dog, Sonny. Sonny is not allowed out of the office, but you can go visit Sonny anytime during the day and give her pets and rubs.

We had German pancakes the first day with a nice fruit topping and the second day we had bagels and yogurt and granola cups with fruit. Delicious!

The wife and I would definitely consider staying here again!

“second visit was wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2008

Just stayed at the Yellow Rose a second time, as the first time left a little to be desired. This visit exceeded all expectations. Betty was absolutely wonderful. There were homemade cookies and milk for us as soon as we got there, and the oak room suite was luxurious and relaxing. The bubble bath was perfection. It was a real treat to be there and we will definitely be back.

P.s. we didnt have time to stay for breakfast so Betty gave us a 'to go' breakfast in a box! so sweet! she was wonderfully generous.

“Turn of the Century hospitality and surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2008

The Yellow Rose Inn is located in the Old Northside Historic District. It provides a taste of what it would feel like to be a guest in a 1900's estate home and Betty, the proprietor, gives a sense of southern hospitality.
My sisters and I stayed here for a 40th birthday and it was terrific to find a B&B that can comfortably accomodate 3 adults. We stayed in the Emerald Suite which had 2 rooms and a spacious bathroom. It was a very cold night so was a little drafty as might be expected in a historic type building, but nothing that a local heater didn't make cozy. The house also has plenty of community space to enjoy including parlor and butler's pantry. Breakfast was exceptional - gourmet and delicious. The neighborhood and house provided a very quiet night of sleep. You can also enjoy a hot tub on the roof. I would recommend the Yellow Rose Inn to anyone wanting a special stay in a 1900's experience.
