My wife and I have stayed all over the world but rarely do you get an experience as unique as that at the Yellow Rose Inn. We were only staying one night as we were heading down to the Kentucky Derby afterwards but we had an amazing time at the Yellow Rose. The owner, Betty, was so incredibly welcoming and greeted us like long lost friends after our tiring journey from London. The house is truly beautiful - elegant, antique-filled, and with a real sense of history. But it's also warm and relaxed. As we were the only guests Betty said that we could choose any room and so we stayed in the stunning Wedgewood room with its enormous whirlpool bathroom and 4 poster bed. The fact that we were the only guests and Betty lives in a separate place behind the house means we basically had the run of the house meaning it felt like our private palace. Incredible. In the evening we were tired but Betty had recommended the St Elmo Steak House so we got a cab over there. We weren't disappointed - gorgeous, old fashioned restaurant serving great steaks and with a buzzy atmosphere. Pricey, but worth it.
The next morning the wonderful Betty greeted us with a mouthwatering breakfast of omelettes, potatoes, cakes - everything you could possibly want and more. She was very sweet and chatted to us, very helpfully telling us about Indianapolis and the surrounding area.
Basically if you're in Indianapolis and want to stay very near the centre of town but also somewhere very, very special don't even contemplate staying anywhere other than the Yellow Rose Inn. I was gutted to leave after only one night, we would loved to have had longer.
