“A Boutique Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I love nice boutique hotels when I travel, which is one reason I selected this one. I stayed here only one night - business. it was charming! The lobby was beautiful with its red walls and crystal chandeliers. I walked in to music of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra - which I grew up with. It was delightful! Check-in was easy. All staff were very pleasant.
Room was cozy and comfortable - not huge - but I dont need huge. I had a queen bed that was very comfortable. Room is beautifully decorated and clean. Lots of pillows on the bed - which I like - and large flat screen tv. Only thing missing was a coffeemaker, which I would have used. Bathroom had tub and shower and was very clean too. Electrical outlets for phone charging were sparse or not convenient, but that is common with older hotels. But I was able to find one.
I got in around 7pm and had work to do so ordered room service. The meal was fabulous! Lobster bisque, sea bass over risotto, rolls and creme brulee'. Portions were very good.
Rates were very good - I happened to get a special deal, perhaps because it was the week AFTER the super bowl. Location downtown was very convenient to my meeting that day and it was fun to see the area as I have never been to Indianapolis before.
I would definitely go back here, especially if the special rates were offered. If I paid the regular rate, I would expect a coffeemaker in the room.
I wasn't able to take advantage of the morning continental breakfast. Weather was cold so the concierge quickly got me a cab for a short ride to my meeting. He was very nice.

“Great Weekend Getaway”

I travel for business extensively and decided to try something different instead of booking a night at your standard chain hotel.....what a pleasant surprise! Despite some skeptical reviews, I booked a night .....this place is really quite nice! My wife and I pulled in at noon on a Saturday and was quickly greeted by a very hospitable bellman....The front desk was warm and personable and put us in a room immediately...the room was very charming, and yes, like some of the negative reviews, might be considered small but when you realize what kind of Historical Landmark this building is, you can see and feel the immediate charm this hotel bestows. We absolutely took advantage of a very quaint bar area that was actually very intimate; we enjoyed a little bit of a refuge from the bustling and active restaurant scenes and the Circle Center Mall and enjoyed the quiet and romantic bar.....overall, very attentive service and we were extremely satisfied... being righ in the heart of downtown is an added plus.....what a great addition to the City of Indianapolis!

“Charming but lacked the service”

We stayed at Canterbury Hotel on the first weekend of Superbowl activities. We arrived and the parking lot guy was awesome. We walked into the the hotel and found it to be exactly the hotel we love. We are from New Orleans and actually eek out these type of quaint charming hotels. Now, the bad. We are waiting to check and were not greeted with a bit of an poor attitude. The owner's wife was telling everyone about the concierge floor and inviting guests to come inspect. We love concierge floors and we always pay the extra rate to be on the concierge floor; had we known this was an option we would have doled out the extra 200 or 300 bucks. When we arrived in our updated room, which looked awesome, charming and exactly what we look for in a hotel, the TV did not work. We called down and they said we would have it fixed(no problem there). Since we did not know about concierge except for a guest that told us later that the owner's wife was showing it off to everyone, except us , we went to St Elmo's for dinner. When we arrived back at the room around 10pm we were going to watch TV, relax and order late night room service. Much to our surprise the TV did not work. We called down they moved us to a handicap room where the TV worked, but offered us nothing in return for our inconvenience Not even an offer to help move our bags etc. We would have been happy with literally in small token- ie a 10 dollar bar voucher.
The long and the short, the hotel looks great but lacked the hospitality we are accustomed too, when paying for a hotel room. We were impressed that the parking attendant remembered our names. Something that simple goes a long way.

First of all I would like to apologize on behalf of our staff for not taking care of your issues. I remember this day very well. It was the day we upgraded our TV cable package to all HD. Unfortunately, this project extended into our check-ins for the day and casued some of our guest to be without TV service for a few hours. The good news is that our guest can now enjoy full HD cable on our new 42" LCD High definition televisions.

“The Canterbury provided us with one of the best stays ever experienced.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We found the Canterbury through Expedia and it turned out awesome! The Turner's Restaurant was superb at the hotel. Our room was quaint and provided an excellent, clean stay! Being from Tennessee we love hospitality and we Experienced that as well. The hotel provides an indoor connect to the indoor mall. So so cool. Walking distance to everything! We met the owner, Mr. Turner, as we were leaving and now we see why it's an awesome place! Thank you Canterbury for giving us a great experience for our first trip to downtown Indy! Thanks also to our bellman Reggie!

“Hope They Step it UP!!”

Being that we are from Indianapolis, my husband and I have stayed at the Canterbury many times for a romantic overnight. The location and charm cannot be beat. For our most recent stay, we opted for a suite. Our room was very nice, the view of Lucas Oil was incredible! It was a game night, so seeing all the activity was great. With the Super Bowl a little over a month away, I was interested in seeing if the hotel would meet the expectations of travelers across the country. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure and everything was very clean. What surprised me most was that there were no actual glasses in the room. Just 2 plastic wrapped cups in the sitting room. Petty, yes. But really? We always like to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner and drinking it out of plastic cups felt as if we were staying at a Motel 6. Sure do hope the hotel steps it up a bit! For a room that costs more than $300 a night, we would have liked the option of a glass!

Room Tip: A corner suite or room on the Southwest side of the building will give you the best view of Lucas Oi...

Thanks for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated! As for the plastic cups I personally prefer glass as well. We selected to put the pre-wrapped plastic cups for customer sanitary assurance. During your next visit please call room service and we will deliver glassware to your room.
