When we arrived our room reeked of smoke. It was about 11:00 p.m. and we did not have the energy to move 2 sleeping children back out of the room and into another. My husband went down to the front desk to get more towels (there were only 3 in the room , even though our reservation was for 4). He told the staff about the room smell. The response from the desk was "I am so sorry! but if you want to change rooms, you will need to come back down first thing in the morning and request it then.

THe next morning we stopped by the pool for a swim and were completely grossed out! The pool was so murky that I couldn't see the 2nd step and there were clumps of hair floating about. Again a very friendly desk clerk apologized, said they had "high traffic" the night before and he would let the maintenance man know when he arrived (it was about 9:30 a.m. already). Subsequently the pool was closed for the rest of our stay.

The free wi-fi was also incredibly slow

On the positive side, the beds were very comfortable, Unfortunately the overall room quality and amenities here were sub-par.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for one night following a show at the nearby Horseshoe Casino. The staff was very friendly and efficient and the room was comfortable. However, the walls are quite thin; it was too easy to hear conversations in the next room. We turned on the air conditioner just to create some 'white noise' to cover up the other sounds.
They do offer a continental breakfast, but for an alternate choice there is a Cracker Barrel next door.
My primary complaint would be that the price was steep compared to other chains in the same category. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if it were the least expensive and only one available, but next time I would be more likely to use the Residence Inn next door.

I had planned to stay in Merrillville, Indiana, but all the hotels there were more expensive than I wanted. I got a good rate at this hotel in Hammond, but I was worried about safety and quality. I didn't need to worry. The hotel is right off the interstate down a dead-end lane beside a pond and a couple other hotels. I felt quite secure there. And the quality was excellent. We arrived around midnight, but had no trouble checking in. Our room was very nice, the bed was comfortable, and we enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. Even though it was right next to a busy interstate, we didn't notice any highway noise. If I stay in this area again, this is the first hotel I will check.

I really enjoyed my stay (5 weeks) back in Sept/Oct of 07 and my most recent visit was equally enjoyable. Room was clean as expected. Staff was outstanding in both service and helpful information about the surrounding area. Having the cooler and micro wave in the room gave me more options for meals then most hotels I stay at. The lobby/breakfast room was large and very clean. I would recommend this hotel to any travelers going though the area.
