My husband stayed here for 2 weeks while in town on business - my daughter and I came over for the second week to stay with him. We had a standard double/double room on the second floor.
I have to say that from the outset, I usually stay at Comfort Suites, so the absence of a free breakfast was sorely noticed. The attached Red River restaurant has a delicious breakfast buffet, but it costs $15 a person during the week. This is excessive, in my opinion. So, we went to a grocery store and bought muffins and fruit to keep in the room. We had to ask to have a small mini-fridge brought up, as it isn't in there as part of the standard package. They also do not have microwaves in the room, but there is one for guest use down in the gift shop.
The internet is also not included - it's free in the lobby - you have to pay $10 a night for wired service. Apparently they are having wifi installed, and we were able to hook into that at no charge to us, as my husband's company paid for it. However, it only covers one device in the room at a time, so we had to ask for another log-in so my daughter could be using her laptop at the same time her dad was on his. I am not sure if once this service is in general use if they will charge $10 per log in or not.
The room itself was very nice and the bedding was AWESOME. The fluffy down comforters and pillows were wonderful. Beware of the beds themselves though - I prefer a firm mattress and these ones you sink right into. That is a personal preference, so maybe other travelers take this as a bonus!
The bathroom was on the small side, but more than adequate. There was a small room with a washer and dryer across the hall from us, which cost $1 each. This was very handy for the longer stay!
The hotel is located quite near many shopping centers and the mall is just up the room. I recommend eating at the attached restaurant for dinner - the ribeye steak costs around $20 and it is DELICIOUS. The service is absolutely impeccable, and I can't say enough good things about them. I would also recommend Granite City brewery/restaurant which is just up the road - for lunch or dinner. I am not lying when I say I would consider making another trip to this area just to enjoy their food again! Their coleslaw is the best I've ever tasted and their chicken salad sandwich is also tasty.
The pool was well-maintained and it is a neat indoor/outdoor combo. My daughter loved this. The biggest negative to me was the whirlpool/spa. It is very, very, very tiny. Two people are fine, three is a crowd! The jets are widely spaced and do not do a good job of bubbling the water at all. Very weak. The decor around the pool is excellent, and the wood furniture is wide and sturdy and comfortable.
There was a "meet the manager" event several times while we were at this hotel, which I thought was a nice touch. They had free beer, wine and tidbits of food and you could, uh, meet the manager and some of the employees. We received periodic calls throughout our stay, asking us if we were enjoying our time at the hotel. The customer service was fantastic.
I would stay here again, I think. I really only have to complain about the soft beds, and that is just a personal issue, nothing on the hotel itself.
Oh, pay attention - there is no elevator to the second floor. If you have back issues, you should get a room on a different level!
Room Tip: No elevator to the second floor!
